I am too poor to feed out a fish pond, but I was wondering if there was a way to attract bugs to the surface?

I would prefer they hit the water alive so the fish get them all fresh. could you cost effectively do something like a bug zapper to keep food on them?

Yes, but why zap them?

A light with a shiny shade or pan above it would work well...bugs fall a lot.

When I had my bug light out all the time it attracted scrub jays who would arrive at first light every morning to clean up last nights bug kill and clean any moths too large to fit in the zapper off of the walls.

Just sticking a bug zapper over the pond would work fine. Fish wont care if the bugs are live or dead.

just get a solar powered garden light, put it over the pond. bugs attracted to light, fall into pond, fish eat as much as they want.

put a light out BUT if you have the land to put up a fish pond you can also raise worms very cheaply. depends on the kind of fish you want to raise but you can also grow algae cheaply to feed certain kinds of fish. Great big bags of feed like crushed corn can be bought very cheaply at animal feed stores.
