Tests for illegal drugs carried out on sewage has revealed that thousands of Queenslanders are getting wasted daily

SOUTHEAST Queensland's sewage is being tested for illicit drugs to help police and overburdened emergency wards.
The tests have revealed the southeast corner's appetite for cannabis, ecstasy, cocaine and methamphetamines.

The University of Queensland research, partly funded by the Australian Federal Police, shows thousands of people are taking drugs every day.

The 2010-2011 southeast Queensland results, obtained by The Courier-Mail, revealed that cannabis use increased during the holidays.

For every 1000 people, about 1-5 grams of marijuana is consumed each day. More recent tests are yet to be analysed.
On New Year's Eve 2010, the use of ecstasy skyrocketed. Over the Christmas and New Year's break, drug users also indulged in cocaine and methamphetamine.

However, on normal working days, people took similar amounts of cannabis as they did on holidays.

Thread title is misleading.

It's not the Australian government playing CSI on people's brown eels, it's the Queensland government. Since Queenslanders are known scat fetishists, it's not surprising that one of their state government departments lobbied the Australian Federal Police for funding for a new turd examination program.

Drug detection and research is just an excuse. They probably aren't even picking out pollywaffles from the sewage system. They are probably spending it all on hookers who'll come into the office after hours, straddle the project director's bare chest and squeeze out a darkie while he rubs it all over his hairy nipples.

Sewage testing checks illicit drug use

A university study has used sewage to measure illicit drug use in South Australia.

The research was based on a European model and aimed to find out if checking excrement could turn up useful information.

Samples were taken from 15 sewage treatment plants across South Australia and tested for traces of ecstasy, methamphetamines and cocaine.

Professor Rodney Irvine of Adelaide University says the results show South Australians use nearly 10 times more ecstasy than people in Europe but use about 10 times less cocaine.

"It showed that compared to other countries, it would look from this preliminary data that our use of ecstasy and methamphetamine is much higher than say Europe, but our use of cocaine is much lower," he said.

He says there is evidence ecstasy use is more prevalent at weekends.

"We did look at midweek samples and weekend samples, because there was a suggestion that some of these drugs are drugs that would be used more on the weekends than they would during the week," he said.

"And that actually showed up particularly with ecstasy where the weekend use was much much higher that midweek use. There wasn't such a big difference for cocaine and methamphetamine.

"[Ecstasy use was] about four to five times higher on the weekend than it is during the week."

Professor Irvine says the testing is a way to get reliable data quickly.

"Because it is something that can be analysed fairly quickly it means that if you have, say, a public health intervention, you would be able to actually monitor whether it was doing any good or not in a whole population," he said.

This is really weird. They have also sent out test kits to everyone that was aged 50, 55 and 65 between Jan 2011 and 31 Dec 2014. They said it was to research for bowel cancer. The thing is they are pretty insistant about it - and they pester you to fill in a form about why you don't want to take part, if you refuse to do it.

This test will be done on a regular basis from now on, on everyone they sent the kit to, who complied.

They can't be looking for hard drugs in that age bracket, but might detect some old hippies still smoking the peace pipe.

And what happens if they find you have bowel cancer? They have no legal right to advise you of same, only a doctor is allowed to give you that diagnosis.

Will they force you to undertake treatments, that are prone to killing you in other ways? Or keep the information to themselves.

How can they track the origin of the turd....

The story on tv said they can track where certain sewage has come from, right down to the neighbourhood and exact street. They hinted that they might be able to know exactly which house, but I am not sure about that.

Wouldn't take too much detective work using traditional methods to figure the rest out, once they were on track to make a big bust.

Scary when you think about the future where you might be on the run... and take shelter in a safehouse run by a friend.

The Federales are looking for you, and by virtue of having taken your DNA while you were in the military, they are now searching city by city for you with this advanced technique of DNA matching.

All it takes is just a sample of sewage from each water treatment plant - a few dollars per test - to determine if you are in that city. From there they trace the poo to your safehouse and arrest you. Show trial you. Gulag you. Eventually, kill you. Because of your poo.
