There are some refineries that are down for maintenance....... and since they won't allow anymore to be built, there are just enough to keep the supply adequate, but not excessive. If one or more go down the supply diminishes and the price goes up.

I still call that price manipulation..... control the supply control the price.

Your dollars are being devalued!
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1565427

I need to do research on this... I would think that there would be many more products that would be going up as drastic. But, if fuel stays there, it's coming. I know of contractors delivering car parts & pharmaceuticals that are having a real, real tough time staying afloat. They are very likely going to go out of business in my opinion. I think after that, prices will rise quite quickly on a lot of goods as the contracts get renegotiated to compensate for increase in delivery costs.
 Quoting: pinkshirtguy

Things like car parts and pharmaceuticals are not consumed immediately upon delivery like gas is. You see their costs rise more slowly because it takes a while for the current manufacturing costs to reach consumers.

A large supply of oil does NOT equate to a large supply of refined gasoline. Two different things.

Oil companies make far more from ALL the other products that come from oil than just gasoline.

High Gasoline prices does four things all at the same time.

1. Extracts inflation out of the economy.
2. Launders that inflation through the purchase transaction.
3. Enables the laundered inflation to be exported and distributed to the OPEC nations supporting their public budgets.
4. Supports the dollar/petrodollar/reserve currency through higher oil prices.

Nice !

Its a direct correlation to the amount of money the fed is pumping. Last roll over on the S&P is about the same as it is now...as per fed to fuel ratio...

 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 22887442

The increased money supply created by the direct printing of money is siphoned off through higher prices at the pump.
Then is exported out of the country to pay for more oil to make more gasoline. Inflation is not just the increase in the money supply. This would be a normal result of an open and free market that has normal price discovery. Do you believe the supply and demand of fuel is out of balance? (is there less fuel out there than can be supplied?) We know that the gas supply is much larger than the consumption-right " so why aren't the gas prices lower under your scenario ?

The price of gas is controlled by how much paper derivatives are bought and sold not by supply and demand.

There are also two different kinds of inflation

1. Inflation created through fractional lending
2. Inflation created from directly printing the money

Number 1 is somewhat beneficial to the economy, is free flowing, non steerable and supports a growing economy.
Number 2 is harmful because it is steerable and directly focused and distributed to wherever the money printers want it. (banks, social programs and price control mechanisms)

The problem is that these two inflation methods cannot be utilized at the same time or to much inflation will be created killing the dollar within weeks.

so number 1 is shut down in favor of number 2 so that they can control and throttle the economy while printing the financial world back to the illusion of solvency.

There is no price discovery so therefore the law of supply and demand pricing has been removed.

Ethanol is added and subsidized as an additive to fuel so that the fuel is less efficient and we consume more (oil) of it.
(gas burning engines get alot less MPG with the ethanol additive )
Ethanol has 33% less BTU's in it than gasoline and it takes 98,000 BTU's per gallon to make one gallon of 76,000 BTU per gallon ethanol.

You think they are making this ethanol to be green when it has a negative BTU net compared to gas?

That's right. Most of the big oil companies have suddenly sold their oil refineries and interest in Colonial Pipeline in the last few years. Those same companies have rolled their money into ethanol refineries...makes you go hmmm Many of these companies are divesting themselves of their gas station retail franchises. To me it sounds like a precursor to what they know ill occur. Can you say oil and gas suddenly become not so available and the big SOLUTION is ETHANOL. I'd say so

It's because the gas you are buying now was refined from oil purchased at higher prices. And yes when the spread is this way refiners do well. When gas starts dropping when oil goes back up, it's because it was refined from oil purchased at these levels.

No, I'm not defending the corporations by the way.

While I don't know if this is the case NOW, but there is an issue of refining the oil to create gas.

Yes, the dollar is tanking but that doesn't explain gas prices.
Perhaps we're looking at refinery capacity issues?

Peace.
 Quoting: AwakenedDude

Bingo. There is a refinery shortage due to excessive regulations. Refineries nationwide have closed during the past 5 or 6 years...

Kinda does takes more dollars to buy the same amount of oil. But it's all part of the plan, 0bama wants gas to be 9 dollar a gallon..Think of all that extra tax money...
 Quoting: ceawaves

As the dollar is inflated the price of oil increases as well. High gas prices at the moment aren't a product of inflation in my opinion.

From what I understand the price of gas today is driven by what the price of oil was a few weeks ago when it was made. So hopefully in a few weeks the price of gas will go down because the oil price is low now.
