I don't think you guys are quite getting what this situation is about...

Huge cuts are going to have to occur.
Republicans want Obama to make cuts, but they have so far Boehner refused to actually outline *what* they actually want cut.

This is because to do so is political suicide. If the Republicans actually outlined what they wanted cut, they would later have to take the blame from constituents for making those cuts, and risk damaging their own future politics.

Obviously they want to cede this 'power' because what they are ceding is the power to get everyone pissed off at you for cutting their funding, getting them laid off, etc.

This way Obama makes the cuts that need to be made, and Republicans can then, farther down the road, take shots at him (and more importantly the Democrats in general) for making those cuts.

Moral of the story - Republican Senators primary concern is getting re-elected, and are unwilling to do their job - ie making tough decisions and being accountable for them.

sorry hit the wrong key and posted this too soon ...

WHAT CUTS NEED TO BE MADE?

It matters who decides this. We've already seen what Obama wants to cut. His first act, even before the deadline, was to release illegal aliens. Was that a cut that needed to be made?

No, the point of the sequester is that the cuts are predefined at least to some extent, and the good thing is that they will include cuts in government. If Obama gets to decide, government will remain bloated, Medicaid will be well protected, and maybe it's Social Security and Medicare that will get hurt more.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 33389306

The point of them 'ceding power' is that they actually have no problem with the cuts Obama is going to make, or more to the point, they agree they have to be made, and this little maneuver allows them to maintain the theater of the 2-party system.

Imagine you, me and a bunch of people are stranded on an island. We're both sharing leadership, and one of our people has a gangrenous leg. The sheep are still clinging to the hope that he's going to pull through, but you and I both realize sooner or later we're going to have to cut off his leg at the hip. But rather than make a joint decision and take the heat together, I'm 'ceding' my power to you. This way you make the call alone, so that in the aftermath of everyone now hating you, they still think I'm a cool guy because I was against it, and 'we' get to keep running the show.

Each branch does not have the power to give its power away.
They would have to amend the constitution first.

Its set in place like that so criminal government cant write laws to change the governing powers of the peoples elect.

They are not rulers, only servants of the people. If WE had real democratic election they would all have been removed already. They have rigged the voting/party system for this very reason.

Either way they don't have that power to give away because its not their power. It is the peoples power and system for when they elect new people , and its reserved for congress only.

After taking it in the ass over and over and over, at what point are people going to realize that there is no more party system. We have been on the same road for decades and it sure as hell doesn't matter what letter happens to be after their name.

Everyone quit telling yourself how "stupid" so and so is, and realize they have unlimited money "yours", and resources "yours", to get a job done. Just because they don't tell you straight out what that job is, or if the outcome is in your best interest is beside the point. They "the government" are doing that job and it is no mistake, nor is it by accident.

 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1492145

And as such, the morans who continue to play their part in the us versus them game really are the source of the troubles in this country. Your bigotry and hatred will be all of our undoing, just as your bigotry and hatred were essential to the first major step in destroying our constitution and nation 150 years ago.

FINALLY REALIZE this now, and we can stand together and fight this, united.

this is a huge leap in the wrong direction

You don't have to teach or explain this to me. I'm way ahead of you. Why are Canadians here so often like this?

The cuts I want are the ones in the sequester, not what Obama and the Repubs may agree in a "bipartisan" manner. I want those sequester cuts to go through, because they will slice some fat off of government that would never get sliced in a renegotiation.

I know Obama is against those cuts, even though he pushed for and signed the legislation that created the sequester. But until yesterday I thought the Repubs were going to be principled about it, now obviously they are not. If Obama chooses the cuts, they will be ones I like much less than the sequester. But if the Repubs agree that Obama's cuts are better than the sequester, I am deeply disappointed in them.

Stand back and let him have it. Nothing any politician can do right now will change the high percentage of people that think they deserve what someone else pays for. It's not going to happen. Let him print and spend all he wants. If it works out then great I was wrong. If it doesn't may it'll be easier to convince other people there's a better way after we hit rock bottom.

I meant to say ALL of Congress are too worried about their own political futures, not just picking on Reps or Dems. And of course the O doesn't want to be held accountable. O wants to look like a hero, so he is playing it like he is trying to be reasonable (ha, can see right through his act).

I am sick of antics of the whole bunch of them...Executive, Legislative and Judicial branches!

Congress is IRRELEVENT

They have been for decades; they don’t even read the bills they vote on. They pass bills they are told to pass by their master, the corporations and lobbyist and Israeli firsters.

They long ago gave up the right to print money (federal reserve now does it)

They already gave up the right to declare war as Bush, and Obama have gone to war without funding or approval. (but nothing was done about it)

Congress is as Irrelevant as the old Soviet Proletariat. They talk but have no power. They haven’t for years.

Get over it America, you do not live in a republic, just a good old fashioned dictatorship run by the shadow elites. Hell.... Obama is just a figurehead as well.

There is no republican or democrat anymore, only foreign powers dictating to the American people through the force of a gun.

here's your doom

Let's give him all the power.. smart idea

Days before the March 1 deadline, Senate Republicans are circulating a draft bill that would cancel $85 billion in across-the-board spending cuts and instead turn over authority to President Barack Obama to achieve the same level of savings under a plan to be filed by March 8.

The five- page document, which has the tacit support of Senate GOP leaders, represents a remarkable shift for the party. Having railed against Senate Democrats for not passing a budget, Republicans are now proposing that Congress surrender an important piece of its Constitutional “power of the purse” for the last seven months of this fiscal year.

I understand that argument, however, if your boat begins to leak, you don't start blasting more holes in it just to justify re-financing another boat.

Turning ANY power that would supersede, circumvent, side-step, or even temporarily relieve Congress of any duties and responsibilities as stipulated within the US Constitution is nothing less than another slip down the same slope. Where, exactly, is the point of stopping such action(s)? Where, exactly, is the point of no return?

The fact that duly elected officials can, in effect, turn their backs on those whom they were elected to represent, as well as the betterment of the country as a whole, in some sort of "strategic move" to "let him take credit for it" is none other than acts of sedition.

The whole lot of them need to be run out on a rail. There needs to be a serious revisiting of instilling the fear in elected officials of tar and feathering for turning against their neighbors and countrymen.
Job 12:7) But ask now the beasts, and they shall teach thee; and the fowls of the air, and they shall tell thee:
8) Or speak to the earth, and it shall teach thee: and the fishes of the sea shall declare unto thee.
