Re: THE SEQUESTER THREAD!!! NO DEAL!!! US Navy Announces Brutal And 'Deeply Regrettable' Cuts!!!
I think it is too late to revolt. Should have stood up for our rights we "they" were first trying to make it a law that everyone HAD to wear a seat belt or get a ticket.

Sounds dumb but "they" didn't have a right to tell the people what was best for them. That is the people choice. Now everyone BELIEVES that "they" are looking out for our well being when the exact opposite is true.

Friends and family have told me I am nuts because I hate the seat belt law when a seat belt does save lives. It isn't the seat belt that I protest, it is that "they" told ME that I have to wear it. Gave up our rights, with a small little thing and that is how it all started!!

His words are so manipulative. That line is true programming in action. He is good at it, I'll give him that.

It's off topic, sorta, but how many people remember piling into the back of a station wagon or back seat and heading to a part, or lake, or vacation? Most on GLP are probably too young but that was before your rights were taken away. Back when no one would have ever thought of taking your guns away because it would stop violence.

If Holder wants to cut costs in his prisons he can release a bunch of nonviolent drug offenders, starting with those who are in for possession. (Yes I know they got busted for something worse, but still possession is all they're convicted of.) Or for growing or distributing weed.

But the problem is that then Prison Industries would have less workforce. To the people who "matter", releasing people is probably a cost rather than a benefit -- losing their slave labor workforce.

Sorry I can't be more sympathetic, seat belts are good for you. I've always worn mine, it's automatic, and we have a big enough car for the passengers.

Some years ago in California we got rear-ended at a stoplight by a drunk illegal with an Oregon license. The car was totalled, but all of us were totally completely 100% unhurt, no whiplash, nothing. The kids cried a bit but we were all fine. I think the seatbelts helped, we were all strapped in.

You a missing the point. Yes they are good for you, usually, but I don't want the gooberment telling me I have to wear them. That is the point. By allowing the gooberment to tell you you will do as they say because it is best for you, you are giving up your rights as a FREE person. We all wear our seat belts in our family, not just because of the law but because it is safe. I am a sane rational human being can make that choice for me and mine without a government telling me that I HAVE to do it or face a FINE.

Do you see the point? It isn't about the seat belt per se, rather allowing someone else to tell YOU what is best for you. You gave up your rights to make that decision for yourself.

Edit: 100 years ago, the people wouldn't have allowed it to happen, they respected their freedom, their rights. That is the point.

Yes of course I see that point. But it's different from your original point, where you said that now you can't jump in the car and go on a trip with the family and friends.

I don't feel a big loss of freedom. A big loss of freedom is the new SAFE act in NY state, which limits rights and threatens my safety. If I have limited time to try to get laws repealed, that's what I'll spend it on, not the seatbelt law.

Anyway this is OT ... peace.

Obama is trying the charm offensive, because his usual devious tactics have failed him here. Probably because Woodward spilled the beans that it's really HIS sequester.

I swear Barack Obama read my book "Mind Control Language Patterns"

[link to www.MindControlLanguagePatterns.com]

NOTE: I have on political intention in posting this speech. It is simply a look at it's use of persuasion... and it's quite awesome!!

This is an excerpt from a speech by Senator Barack Obama - New Hampshire Primary
Tuesday, January 8th, 2008 Nashua, New Hampshire

My comments on the persuasive power of this are in (bold).

We've been asked to pause for a reality check. (This is an indirect suggestion to "pause" i.e., to stop thinking or rationalizing) We've been warned against offering the people of this nation false hope. ("We" implies a "you and me" thus uniting us. From our detached "pause" we can look at the concept of false hope.)

But in the unlikely story that is America, ("unlikely" allows us to feel unique and special as Americans, linking us to the myth of a people who thrive against all odds) there has never been anything false about hope. (This is a different use of the words "false" and "hope" and reframes "false hope" in a new way) For when we have faced down impossible odds (these impossible odds are unmentioned but assumed and affirms that we are unique) ; when we've been told that we're not ready, or that we shouldn't try, or that we can't, generations of Americans have responded with a simple creed that sums up the spirit of a people.

Yes we can.
(A call to action but even more; a call to rebellion against those who try to discourage us.)

It was a creed written into the founding documents that declared the destiny of a nation.
(Evocation of "destiny"; that we are the central figures around whom great things can occur.)

Yes we can.

It was whispered by slaves and abolitionists as they blazed a trail toward freedom through the darkest of nights.
(Offering anecdotal evidence to support our rebellion against any oppressor.)

Yes we can.
(Repetition. Hammer it into the mind and link it with powerful and positive emotions.)

It was sung by immigrants as they struck out from distant shores and pioneers who pushed westward against an unforgiving wilderness. (More strong images of perseverance against security and reason.)

Yes we can.

It was the call of workers who organized; women who reached for the ballot; a President who chose the moon as our new frontier; and a King who took us to the mountaintop and pointed the way to the Promised Land. (Wow! This one is POWERFUL! Without stating who the "King" is it providing clues of "mountaintop" and "the Promised Land" and he allows us to connect the dots on our own. This makes us to feel as if we have knowledge of an inner secret.)

Yes we can to justice and equality. Yes we can to opportunity and prosperity. Yes we can heal this nation. Yes we can repair this world. Yes we can. (Powerful use of repetition.)

And so tomorrow, as we take this campaign South and West; (in itself this brings people back to earth... to the reality of the campaign. This would be bad if it were not for the preceding emotional high we've been brought to) as we learn that the struggles of the textile worker in Spartanburg are not so different than the plight of the dishwasher in Las Vegas; that the hopes of the little girl who goes to a crumbling school in Dillon are the same as the dreams of the boy who learns on the streets of LA; (This creates the feeling of bonding between different people. A feeling that we are not so different from one another.)

we will remember that there is something happening in America; that we are not as divided as our politics suggests; that we are one people; we are one nation; and together, (Providing three ways of saying "we are one people" and thus clobbering us with repetition again) we will begin the next great chapter in America's story with three words that will ring from coast to coast; from sea to shining sea ("coast to coast; from sea to shining sea" evokes patriotic memories of the song "God Bless America" ... all without saying it explicitly!) – Yes. We. Can.

(Yes, we can! There is little more persuasive than a simple phrase repeated and instilled with emotion. It is the same effect that Hitler used with "Zieg Hail!" and Martin Luther King with "I have a dream.")

There Goes The Sequester
Submitted by Tyler Durden on 03/01/2013 15:37 -0500

Today is the day when, if one listens to Obama whose idea it was in the first place, an unprecedented $85 billion spending cuts will be sequestered, unleashing famine, pestilence, the apocalypse and grizzly bears (as all park rangers will be dead from starvation). Which is why we applaud the administration's desire to preempt this tragic for the nation outcome, by issuing, in one day alone: February 28, $80 billion in Treasurys sending debt to (obviously) what is a new all time high $16,687,289,180,215.37.

In other words, the entire apocalyptic impact of the sequester for 2013 was offset by one day's debt issuance.

Oh, and we didn't label this post Friday humor because it rightfully falls under the Friday grotesque, surreal tragedy category.
