Re: Empty Shelves in Walmart?
.

Wal-Mart's shelves have been skimpy for months.
Many times they are out of what I came to buy.

I do not find this issue with other stores.

The leaked email from Walmart said they were having the worst month the exec who wrote it could imagine. Maybe they are not having as much stuff on shelves because Walmart is the king of keep inventory moving and nobody buying = dead inventory.

Re: Empty Shelves in Walmart?
I just noticed that there weren't many people there either yesterday. I've never seen the place that empty until now. It was weird, I even bumped into a family friend I hadn't seen in over a year, she was complaining she had to shop for a birthday party calling them "Amerikansi". I was there because they only carry a coffee I like and the one I like wasn't there either.

Threads like this serve to help me keep everything I read on GLP in perspective..

Again- I work in the industry and if there was an issue with supply I would know it.. I work with ALOT of CPGs and none are having issues..

It is because you are overpopulated and supply can no longer meet demand.

There is a final solution to this problem.

As I look at the local super Walmart, it's loaded with food. However the shelves were bare for certain items I was looking for. When they come in I buy all of it and there's none for the next guy.

I don't know what the problem is... but it is specific to Wal-Mart.

For some reason they can't keep inventory stocked.

Re: Empty Shelves in Walmart?
As collapse starts taking place in various pieces of the chain (supply chain), the link is broken and takes time to fix. A break in the chain in a megalith like WalMart shows and is felt immediately.

What to learn from this? Don't run low on items you need. Keep a cushion of your own inventory.

"It is argued that in order to understand systemic risk in the globalised economy, account must be taken of how growing complexity (interconnectedness, interdependence and the speed of processes), the de-localisation of production and concentration within key pillars of the globalised economy have magnified global vulnerability and opened up the possibility of a rapid and large-scale collapse. ‘Collapse’ in this sense means the irreversible loss of socio-economic complexity which fundamentally transforms the nature of the economy. These crucial issues have not been recognised by policy-makers nor are they reflected in economic thinking or modelling.

As the globalised economy has become more complex and ever faster (for example, Just-in-Time logistics), the ability of the real economy to pick up and globally transmit supply-chain failure, and then contagion, has become greater and potentially more devastating in its impacts. In a more complex and interdependent economy, fewer failures are required to transmit cascading failure through socio-economic systems. In addition, we have normalised massive increases in the complex conditionality that underpins modern societies and our welfare. Thus we have problems seeing, never mind planning for such eventualities, while the risk of them occurring has increased significantly. The most powerful primary cause of such an event would be a large-scale financial shock initially centring on some of the most complex and trade central parts of the globalised economy"

At our local WalMarts it's true, many times they are out of enough bread to cover the shelves and yesterday the vegetable section was extremely sparse.

I notice this a lot at our biggest Walmart here, drove me nuts. Lately has not been quite as bad as it was, but still having problems at different stores with stocking, for sure.

And don't forget the cliff we just fell off from. Folks have less money to spend and the computerized ordering system is probably ordering less merchandise.

The mores of society have been collapsing for decades.

It was was only a matter of time for the collapse of
the social order to begin affecting the economy.

As AC 35296420 posted, this time it is a global collapse.

The Bible refers to this as the fall of Babylon...
and details the economic fallout.

@13272342 Good point, perspective from both sides is vital.

The Ammo Shortage, however, is very real and may not be a short term problem.

Re: Empty Shelves in Walmart?
We go to Wal-mart about once every three months, I personally hate the place, but my wife likes it. Of course when I'm in there I get seduced by some low prices.

Last trip a couple of weeks ago we went and it was freakin packed, people on top of people almost literally, but.. instead of the usual buggies brimming over most buggies at check out were maybe a 1/4 full if that. Usually people get to check out with tons of crap.

Looked like more people buying much less stuff.

Looks like more people buying more stuff at the Dollar General and Dollar Store.

On a lot of items Wal-mart pretty expensive. Years ago they opened up a food center near where I lived and the prices were unreal cheap after a couple of months not so cheap and after a couple more months more than the grocery store that had always been there.

another note, I've been trying to buy a gamepad for PC since January, there was one there before Christmas, but every time I go it hasn't been restocked. It seems that the electronic department is half empty also.

Re: Empty Shelves in Walmart?
no problems in oro valley arizona. in fact, they can have all the crap from our store and just close it down. ours has to be one of the biggest money losers they have. the area is more upper middle class and the store is just dead all the time.

funny thing though, i went in and paid for a $2.86 tuperware bottle with a $5.00 bill.

the clerk rang me up as a $50 dollar bill and pocketed the extra $45 and change.

i snitched him out to the manager, mainly because he did cut me in......and i hate walmart employees as a general rule.

here I've noticed the local Toys'R'US and Winners both with empty shelves. Also Walmart seems to have lots of useless crap but runs low on things that are more useful and on sale.

Major conspiracy! Any chance this might have something to do with most people buying what they need, and what's on sale?

Quit trying to scare people. You know good and damn well the stores will always be well stocked. This is America, land of the free, home of the obese.

You were at the store on a bad day. Go back to sleep. Dream of Wally World.

Most of these issues mentioned in this thread about stores not being stocked, are Store issues. Not supply issues.

I agree with you entirely.
