Significant East-Coast Storm Forecast for Next Week. One-Foot of Snow for DC, Philly, NYC! Major Nor'easter

Anyone have a groundhog recipe?.....

Overnight model runs continue to show the possibility of an east coast winter storm next week, around March 5-7.

The map below is from an American model and depicts a storm gaining strength off of the Carolina coast.

Big questions remain: will it move to the north, will cold air remain, and will the storm intensify as significantly as some models say it will.

We'll probably have a better idea of how the situation will evolve this weekend; until then, we'll continue to examine data to make an accurate prediction.

In the meantime, residents from Virginia to New York City should continue to monitor this possible storm.

It has the potential to be a big one.

While this storm could be big, it could also be the season's last.

Most long range models say spring weather will arrive....perhaps for good...come the second half of March.

I am in the Peninsula just just from Outer Banks, in the Hampton Roads (Yorktown, VA) and they are saying just rain with maybe a mix but that's it.

I don't mind the snow, but I live on a corner lot with a sidewalk that goes from the front of my house, along the side and along the back. I have to pay someone to clear the snow.

Then the township snowplows shove the snow from the street back onto the sidewalks. The police come along a day later, tape a warning onto the front door that says you'll be fined if your sidewalk isn't cleared within 24 hours.

I see...at the most...one person a day walking on my sidewalk behind the house, and they're walking a dog.

Other than that, snow is beautiful. lol

doorbert, whats ur thoughts on the ohio valley on how much snow they will get?

A new Winter storm (even though Meteorological Spring started March 1) will sweep out of the Northern Rockies and into the Northern Plains later today and into Monday. The storm will then move into the Midwest and Ohio Valley Tuesday before strengthening considerably while moving off the Mid-Atlantic coast Wednesday.

The track is well-represented in the latest Snowfall Forecast through Wednesday as a swath of snow is expected from the Dakotas through West Virginia and Virginia. The largest amount of snow is anticipated in the Appalachians of West Virginia and Virginia, where over two feet of snow is possible. Elsewhere, over a foot of snow will be possible in the Ohio Valley and Minnesota.

yeah i have been looking at model runs for the last two days and it looks like we may get about 6-12" in my area.

was looking for another opinion.

looks like it will be a prolonged event.

starting early Tuesday going thru Wednesday.
