Read the paper from which the image came. EGRET Detection of Gamma Rays from the Moon The Energetic Gamma Ray Experiment Telescope (EGRET) on the Compton Gamma Ray Observatory has detected gamma rays from the Moon as it passed through the instrument field of view several times between 1991 and 1994. The average flux, (4.7 +/- 0.7) x 10(-7) ph(>100 MeV)/cm(2) s, and the energy spectrum of the lunar gamma radiation are consistent with a model of gamma ray production by cosmic ray interactions with the lunar surface, and the flux varies as expected with the solar cycle. Although the same processes may occur on the Sun, EGRET does not detect the quiet Sun. The upper limit, 3.0 x 10(-7) ph(>100 MeV)/cm(2) s, does not contradict calculations of the expected solar gamma-ray flux. Thus, in high-energy gamma rays, the Moon is brighter than the quiet Sun. Cosmic rays interact with the soil and produce gamma rays. Also, the gamma ray flux is rather low. What did you not understand about 'Secondary Gamma Source'? What don't you understand about extremely low flux level. |

They were on the surface for only a couple of days. The Sun angle was between 10 and 15 degrees above the horizon. The max temperature for that angle is around 90F, easily handled by the suits. The angle determines how much solar heat hits a given surface. Basic thermodynamics. It still doesn't change the fact that heating up and down is not an instantaneous process either. It takes time to change temperature. That is also basic thermodynamics. Sorry dude, you don't understand simple radiometric properties. The intensity depends on the cosine of the solar angle. They landed at solar angles of 10 - 15 degrees above the horizon. I think you screwed up the tags. Apparently some people managed to sleep trough school all the way from elementary to dropping out. If there's one thing all hoaxies have in common it is their astonishing ignorance of how things work.  Yes I did. Have to be more careful. |

They tried with the shuttle also, just moving up a bit closer to it and they started feeling sick, long before actually getting into it so they came back to low orbit. |

What happened to us - did we just forget how to do stuff - I mean it's obvious that the computers we have now are shit compared to late 60's tech what with how they were able to program, pilot, land, blast off, re-couple and return to earth using total computing power of less than that of the average smartphone. Hell, they even beamed back live coverage of the landing and take-off from the surface of the moon (I kinda feel sorry for the camera man who was left behind and is unknown and unsung in the history of our illustrious space program) while today we STILL get dropped cellphone calls and there is a patchwork of no cell coverage areas across the U.S. Ditto with the micro meteorite defying anti radiation playtex space suits that could go from 253 F (123 C) in full sunlight to -243 F (153 C) in the shade without so much as any loss of surface plaibility or suit integrity let alone any noticeable discomfort to person wearing the suit. Nuclear reactors havegamma and neutron radiation. Space is primarily alpha and beta particle radiation. Shielding requirements are entirely different. That you are trying to equate them shows your ignorance on the subject. |
