Who buys their honey from China.

Buy local, support the beekeepers in your area.

hf
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 628775

If you bought any honey from the supermarket or purchased any produce that was mass produced with honey in it (like bread), then you have eaten honey from china.

The best thing is to only get your honey locally from the bee keeper. Otherwise, your just eating corn syrup with a side of pesticides, a scoop of antibiotics, and a trace of pure poison.
 Quoting: samanthasunflower

what type of antibiotics?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 35251907

tetracycline with a dash of lead.

[link to www.google.ca (secure)]

consider how many people are allergic to antibiotics and unwillingly may have been ingesting foods with this fake honey in it.

perhaps having deadly reactions.

its disturbing.

indoorx Yes it is about people being cheapskates and expecting something for nothing. Like for instance buying 4 beefburgers for £1 and then being upset because they contain horse meat. Or putting your savings into dodgy investments because they promise you an extra 1% return and then being upset when you lose the lot. It takes two to tango you know.

From today's paper. This is all getting silly, what with meat and milk and honey. Eat local, people, and know exactly where the food you eat comes from. You'd almost think they were trying to poison us. 'All Chinese honey ordered off shelves'

I keep organic honeybees and can tell you that the honey from China is not honey at all.

They fill hive feeders with HFCS, the bees collected the syrup & store it in the comb along with actual nectar they collect. What you end up with is a product that is 90% high fructose corn syrup, 10% honey.

You also cannot imagine the toxins present on the little bit of actual nectar the Chinese bees do collect.

Always buy locally produced honey, if possible.

You also have to watch out for major brand honey that is US produced as well.

 Quoting: GFX guy

agreed.

this is what raised the alarm for me.

On the front label it says:

100% Organic CANADA Grade A Honey

so I bought it.

when I got home to make my honey/lemon tea to fight off this nasty flu going around... for some reason I decided to check the BACK of the label to see if any other nasty ingredients were in there.

(should have done this at the store)

and I seen MADE IN AUSTRALIA

wtf? i THOUGHT this was Canadian honey (canada being a major exporter of honey I believed it was honey from my own country)

and thats when I followed the google trail of China flooding our markets with GRADE A SHIT under the falsity of another country that canada has a FREE TRADE agreement with.

Not sure how it works in USA.

I know one thing ...I ain't putting that nasty shit in my honey/lemon tea ...

its 100% fraud.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 31189143

how they get around this is the value added method. If the majority of the finished product was Canadian then the product is labeled Canadian. Where the clouding of the law comes in is that the package itself costs more than the ingredients then the product is deemed to have been "made in Canada"
I recall a TV news story about fish from a fish farm in Vietnam that was repackaged by a Nova Scotia fish plant and labeled as made in Canada. I think it was Highliner, I could be wrong though

I wouldn't doubt it. I don't trust any product coming from China. I got a USB drive for Christmas (Made in China) but there were no working electronics inside, just the USB plug. Its just a big organized crime scam over their. No concept on building customer relationships or quality products just unabated greed. Not only are they screwing the world over but themselves, fighting over scraps like rats in a cage.

true, not to mention it is a great antioxidant.
I would add though that you should only buy raw organic honey in the honey comb from a local apiary (organic unpasteurized unprocessed un un un).
The best way (health) to eat it is to cut off a piece small enough to fit in your mouth and suck and chew until you have all the honey, propolis, bee pollen, yeast and enzymes extracted from the comb.

I just read that Honey coming from China is actually corn syrup with Tetracycline added to it .. (because real honey has natural antibiotic properties)

this is an old article about it [link to www.foodsafetynews.com]

it figures that with all these disappearing bees, that these asshats would find a way to fool the food inspectors.

remember the melamine incident???

its a honey conspiracy!! only buy from local bee farmers.

and real honey should look cloudy NOT like corn syrup
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 31189143

no some honey may retain some solids in suspension
and most honey will crystalise (is that what you mean?)
but honey should be clear varying in colour from almost clear to almost black ive had green honey and pink honey as well.

yep dont buy chinese honey even most of the US brand stuff
is very iffy. buy local and even then its hard to be sure
what you are getting sometimes.

That's cool you keep bees. If I wasn't terrified of anything with a stinger, I'd like to do the same once I get some property in interior BC. I've been attacked by swarms three times, it's completely psychological... I hear buzzing and I start shoving little old ladies and baby carriages out of the way....

Honey is one of the best survival foods since it never goes bad. They've even found honey in Egyptian tombs that was still edible.

Sick to death of all the fake foods posing as real health food. Whenever I see the labels "Made in China" I think probably toxin polluted or fake in some way (cut with some bulker). If I see "Made in America" I think, ugh that's gonna be GMO and covered in pesticides illegal in the EU. What with crap in the rain building up in the soil, it's not even safe to grow your own stuff (assuming the council doesn't force you to dig up your garden and put a small 1-inch grass block in its place, and assuming jobs don't pull your garden up...)

I'd keep bees if I wasn't afrid of them. But I do keep plants for the little guys. They loved my basil last year and I was happy to see them, just at a distance.
I get my honey at the farmers market, from a local beekeeper. I pay $6.75 for 12 oz. Not cheap but not unaffordable.
Please, seek out a farmers market or co-op. it's not just good for you but we also need to make the committment to keep our farmers doing what they do best.
There is only one person between me and my food. He goes to local farms to gather the produce that's in season and sells it from a storefront. Please seek out people like him in your area. And grow your own :)
