A forgotten part of american history
I am an american of polish descent with ancestors that were brought here as slaves. I think it is a travesty that there stories are not in school books. I myself live a pretty good life, but I owe it to them. The only reason I even know about this dark history is my grandfather who was very fond of his mother would often tell me stories of her life as a slave. He even kept her walking papers as inspiration. I would love to reach out to others like myself of european descent someday and come up with some kind of a remembrance so their stories are not forgotten. It is a dark part of our history and it should never be lost to the annals of history.

Yes, my white ancestor came here as a slave in the early 1600's.

not hijacking your thread, but can you imagine German was beaten by a handful of votes for official language in the US?
Can you imagine that, I can't.

My mom was taken from her home in Ukraine by Nazi s to work as a slave on a German farm during the war since that farms men were taken as soldiers. 5 ft tall, 14 years old, was made to plow the fields.

In USA since retirement, she gets $35 a month from German govt to repay her for being a slave.

Americans only seem to remember made up historical events that paint them in a good light anything else they just "happen" to forget... So much fake history...

Re: A forgotten part of american history
I think you meant to say indentured servant. A lot of people early on paid for their trip and settling over here by agreeing to work for a number of years. It was certainly restrictive, but it wasn’t outright slavery and once the contracted number of years were up, they could go anywhere and do anything they wanted.
"God forbid we should ever be 20 years without such a rebellion. The people cannot be all, & always, well informed... If they remain quiet under such misconceptions it is a lethargy, the forerunner of death to the public liberty... Let them take arms... What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots & tyrants. " - Thomas Jefferson in 1787

Very interesting, OP. I had never heard of it either so decided to look it up and came across this.

It's amazing to think how little we know of what really happened hundreds of years ago even when we think it is all really well documented. Imagine what little people will know of us in a few hundreds of years. Just like today, only tptb's version will be shared.
