What if... the persistently increased water flow into the ground from this basin weakened the "chasm" roof and allowed the collapse? That city or county may be liable. |

It is "Karst" geology - limestone caves and caverns filled with underground water and rivers. This is why there are so many springs, they are the openings into the karst. The cities, agriculture, mining and bottling plants are drawing too much water out of the aquifer and when the aquifer levels drop, there is no more water pressure holding up the surface land. This is going to continue because the water management and environmental depts. in Florida are corrupted and paid off by TPTB. Water is the oil of the 21st century. Oh... and sorry about the dude who got swallowed up by the earth. Wonder what he was thinking??? |

The Yucatan Peninsula was next to Galveston Texas. The Gulf of Mexico did not exist. Over the millennia, the Gulf of Mexico opened up as a series of transform faults slid past each other. Those faults still exist, and have fractured the Limestone that was laid down in shallow seas. These fractures allow water to percolate down and disolve the rock, producing caves and other subterranean features. The Port St Joe fault passes through this area and there are collections of sinkholes all along it's path. North of Panama city you can find all sorts of collapse features and lakes, even up through Defuniak Springs, which is a town that features a nearly perfectly round lake (in an old sinkhole). This fault runs up into Alabama, and you can find cavelike features in the area where is passes. The fault is pretty dormant, though occasionally it will have a small quake. The most startling quake any of these old transform faults made, was a Mag 6.0 directly in the middle of the Gulf of Mexico Sunday, September 10, 2006 at 14:56:07 UTC. This was probably on the Mississippi River Fault. [link to earthquake.usgs.gov] Anyway, you can see the 14 dominant transform faults here. They want to bring their "lord" to power on the earth, and falling for this ridiculous story will help their plans along nicely. |
