Seriously? You think that a creature that primarily jumps to hunt would not have evolved a way to gauge the distance?
Did you learn to walk through divine intervention? How about speak -- did that one just fall into your lap one day, too?

On some planet somewhere, there is some alien professor, who has his students inventing life forms, and then transporting them here to see how they survive. Some little alien got an A for the jumping spider.
