I don't see an issue with age appropriate sex ed. I'd be more excited to see the outrage at the fact the vast majority of kids in that area in middle and high school cannot read or write.

Kids in Chicago don't know how to read, write or add....1+1=3

This is definitely a tough one-I understand where the schools are coming from-younger kids are developing sooner, emphasis is on sexuality (media, music), STDs are more the fear than pregnancy these days...on the other hand, this is not the schools place, it's the parents.

I do agree with teaching young students about bullying, healthy relationships, family, feelings, and inappropriate touching from kindergarten and every year after! These are things that apply to every grade (and able to be tweaked to fit the age range), should be taught by the parent and reiterated by the school..think about it-if a parent is abusing their child, they won't be teaching them that inappropriate touching is wrong. Same goes for family/feelings/healthy relationships-I think of it as a built in psychologist. If someone had told me HOW to identify my feelings and coping mechanisms that I could use, perhaps I wouldn't have struggled so much my pre/teenage years. Or that the friends I chose were not part of a healthy relationship, not simply because they did drugs-like i was taught-but instead because they did not give me support or want me to better myself.
Bottom line? Anything dealing with healthy SELF should be taught from kindergarten.

The sexuality and teaching of the body---that's where there's the gray area. Can you teach about inappropriate touching without defining 'penis' or 'vagina'? Does the teacher use 'pee-pee' 'down-there' or actual anatomical names? There was sex-ed offered in 5th grade at my school, but it was optional. Girls and boys were separated, we learned anatomy of both systems, menstruation, how sperm and egg join to form a baby...Maybe that's it-make it optional. Even for high school-allow it to be taught, but allow parents to opt out if they want.

Maybe it's prep for when the Muzzie kids in the school get ready for marriage at age 9

I think it's a great thing. Children of all ages need to know about appropriate touching vs being taken advantage of! They also need to know how their sexual organs work instead of their parents lying to them and making shit up about sex for years!

IT'S HERE IN EUROPE TOO! My kid got a full scale manual complete with masterbation instructions. There are no waterfountains in the school, but you will get a complete education with all the propaganda. Still better than in chi-congo...

At that age all I knew about sex was pieced together from biology books I read.

I suspect kids these days learn about sex long before schools even consider teaching them about it.

This is why you see children who are not aged into double figures having babies.

How is teaching kindergartners going to help prevent pregnancy? Teach them when it becomes RELEVANT to their lives!!! Btw, I am pro-choice. Teach them at the right time though ffs. And scare the beejeezus out of them about STDs which are skyrocketing btw. Genital herpes and warts for life anyone? No? Then USE CONDOMS!!!
