It is in writing, by the patient. Many reasons for this, including the fact that in very elderly patients, they aren't going to really "come back", but remain in a vegetative state. "When tyrants tremble in their fear, and hear their death knell ringing, When friends rejoice both far and near, how can I keep from singing" page7 |

This had NOTHING to do with the patient having had do not resusitate orders. No, it was the policy of this skilled nursing facility to call 911 and NOTHING ELSE. Homicide charges are being considered. Now imagine if a kitchen worker cut themselves with a knife and was bleeding out. they would let the person die, too. this is amoral, and a terribly sad day for nursing. |

My dad had one. He did not want to be kept alive and most people in the nursing homes have them. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 32505159 Had nothing to do with a dnr. It has to do with an SNF not wanting to act like an SNF. I hope they lose all their licenses and funding. |

Supposed to be like one is living at home on one's own. Skilled nursing facility is a hospital, licensed nursing staff. Legal ramifications. Which one is it? Owners do not care, to them it is real estate. All they are doing is CYAssets. Laws and lawsuits are causing some crazy behaviors in this country, folks should take heed. Look at the stories of folks left on the side of the road in trouble due to fear. Look at the little child in China run over and left due to fear. What are we becoming? I say the judicial system needs work if we can't get these lawyers under control, strengthen our judges. This will give hope to the populace that they will be treated fairly. |

Does he mean manslaughter? It is not like they deliberately killed grandma and you would think a legal expert would know the difference between the two charges. It sounds to me like this is a bunch of manufactured outrage. People put their elders into this home knowing the policies. |

I once worked for a massive Food distribution complex that had several large warehouse freezers...it backed up to a large neighborhood and we were told if we developed a leak that we were only to call 911 and "DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES TRY AND RESCUE ANYONE" I left and went to work for the local School dist. If kids were to get into trouble like a fight or injured in some way, again..."CALL 911 DO NOT GET INVOLVED" we were told at both places we would be fired if we violated this rule....I told them "Well you'll just have to fire me then!" |

He had been dead a while. Many times they tried to push the DNR on me and I refused to sign indicating that they should do everything possible but when they had the opportunity they let him die and then called 911 after it was too late. They won't live forever and then they will have to explain to God something that has no explanation..At least that family has proof that they did not even try to help. This happened on August 13, 2007 and I recall it as if it were yesterday. I believe they got away with murder but not for long. They have a higher power to answer to. |

If this was the policy of the home then the family and the resident had to of known about this. If they wanted her resuscitated in a situation like this then maybe they should have put her in a nursing home that had life saving in their policy. You cannot blame the employee, blame the family or the resident herself for not taking that little detail into consideration. |
