Anonymous Coward User ID: 1859992 United States 03/04/2013 08:29 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | So I have a very small cat named Kalika who is pregnant and I think she is about to have the kittens any day now. Quoting: Spirit666 I was reading all sorts of stuff on the net...even watched a few youtube vids. My questions are: Kalika's temp today 100.8 I read 100 or under means she will give birth within 24hrs...should I be on constant watch now? Also I got string...Petraluem Jelly and gloves in case of problems...should I have anything else on hand? I am worried because she is a tiny cat so she might have complications. Anyone who has owned a tiny momma cat that has had kittens please chime in here...this is my biggest worry right now. Last one she follows me around constantly lately...so I think she will be wanting me around when she does go into labor...maybe for support? I am scared and excited. This is my first time I ever had a cat who got pg. Sure we had them growing up as a girl from time to time but I never really paid attention to what my mother did and besides I was young so I never got to see it first hand that time or I was not around when it happened. lol Any tips are appreciated! Thanks guys :) Cats are usually very self sufficient, no matter how small. Don't know what you can do for her with your human hands and her tiny birth canal. Also, cats have a uterus for each kitten, so it's not like turning a calf or something (although you might be able to give her companionship). Also, the friendliest cat often wants to give birth in seclusion. They like boxes in closets or open dresser drawers with some soft towels. Often, you'll prepare a wonderful place for them and they'll go somewhere else. Good luck to you, just go with your feelings about how much company she wants to tolerate. |

She will do all of the rest. She may want you close by...some kittys are comforted by knowing that their human owner is near by. Last Edited by MesaMom on 03/04/2013 09:00 PM |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 31769448 United States 03/04/2013 09:11 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Maybe I should use thread instead of string? in case of umbillical cord problems? Quoting: Spirit666 on cats because they are litter animals, you can just cut the cord if the placenta is still inside, it is already detached when the kitten is born. the milk will come in before the actual contractions start so the kittens can nurse immediately. So far I had now big problems with small cats, a little problem with first tiny tiny siamese and 5 kittens, her belly was on the floor and I had to clean her bottom for some time. She fatigued near the end and I pulled one kitten while she recovered her energy. That was all. |

Alexander User ID: 15635858 United States 03/05/2013 09:58 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | We have a small dog who jumped into the birthing box and was helping out licking the babies and offering support for mama cat. It got to where she wanted the kittens for herself and we had to remove her putting moma cat and kittens in another room where we could shut the bedroom door. The truth is incontrovertible. Malice may attack it, ignorance may deride it, but in the end, there it is. Winston Churchill Daily Updates Thread: ASS IS IN THE WRINGER - Rolling Updates from 11/16/20 to present (Page 235) |

She was very attached to me, and went into labor on my pillow beside my head while I was sleeping ... 3am I heard her scream and looked over and thought I had used her as my pillow and squashed her guts out (keep in mind 3 am) ... I jumped up, flipped on the light, screamed at my husband to help her cause I was wigging out and then I ran, ran to the other side of the house and cried.. Then I heard him yell "she's having her babies you nut case!" Moral of the story, they won't always find a quiet place to have their babies in peace... Good luck with the babies! It's spring, at 8 weeks (I've waited 12) put an ad in your paper.. They will go fast.. So fast that I have no idea why anyone takes them to the pound :( and get that little girl fixed |

Maybe you're just catching up on your sleep or at work. Let is know as soon as possible..the suspense is a bit worrisome, ok? Quoting: Anonymous Coward 34046798 Well guys...I don't know...okay stayed up till 3am with her and no babies yet :( She only panted a few times after I posted how she was laying on my son. I woke at 8am to find her in the closet on the towel I laid down. I went back to bed around 9 and of course couldn't sleep well she came and layed on my chest and started to do this weird thing...I think she was trying to push. I have seen her do it 3 times now. She won't stay still... walking around meowing. I did not observe her trying to push last night. I don't know at this point!!! |

Sometimes cats are a little like first time human moms. There can be false alarms and it will take her a little while to get started. It sounds like she'll have them soon, but soon as in her time. She's walking around for the same reason we walk when we're in labor. It helps strengthen the labor and get the babies in a better position. She'll probably give out a huge yell when she's going to deliver the first one. She knows what to do, it's just had for us to watch and feel helpless! |

I was thinking that just now...how long it took for me to have my son and yes I walked and walked also. Her time sounds right...it's just exhausting...I want to be right there in case... when I went to check on her where she was a few minutes ago I peeked in the closet and yep she was right in the corner she saw me and moved and started meowing. I said it's okay Kalika go back to the blanket...and put her there and left the door open just a little. I don't want to look again and disturb her again. I will wait a bit....leave her alone. And keep my ears open. |

She wouldn't leave me alone. I finally went with her to her box and sat with her. It wasn't long before the little kitties came along. After the first kitten, she got busy and I left. It was the middle of the night an I needed some sleep. Another time with a different cat, she seemed to be having trouble. A friend from out of town was visiting. She massaged the cat's belly. I can't remember a lot, I believe she had 2 kittens that were both still born. I don't remember how we knew she was having trouble. I think she went to her box and was in there a long, long time with no results. Good luck with the kittens. Try not to worry too much. I'm afraid she will pick up on that. Let us know when we have kittens! |

Give her some space. Quoting: hapless moran Exactly! She will want to hide them at first. Yep from the dog and other cat...man Hapless called it earlier in the thread...she's gonna do it in the closet I bet. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 34046798 United States 03/05/2013 10:31 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Planetary aspects suggest she & kittens bear watching for trouble though. Possible infection, mastitis, do watch her for a couple 3 weeks. Quoting: DawaSatso oh wow...thanks for the heads up Dawa...I'm worried again...I wasn't last night but now I am... Aww..be calm and aware. Normally I wouldn't say anything and just trust the right thing will be done at the right time with how you can sense things on your own. All I can say is her littleness could mean she needs assistance of a vet. Usually it goes smooth on their own, but sometimes labor symptoms in a kitty are pretty quick by just a few hours..not prolonged. At least call a vet for some advice and settle your mind about what is going on with her. Then again sometimes med assistants can be schmucks by too much or too little...up to you, sweetheart. Please keep us posted, and hey, what is her name prithee tell? Peace and NO BIG DEAL today :) |
