The most amazing part of this story?

Is that if you talk to your friends and coworkers about this, they will insist they actually saw the sinkhole on TV!

Homeowners in Florida will now want their floors re-done with floor joists, and other support. Florida will probably require new codes for house building that requires floors with framework.
Who benefits? The contractors.

I bet there is now...

Beware the disinformation agents!

So youve told your families and/or friends that somethings fishy cause there are no pics of dat dere sinkhole( due its under the house, but ok...) and for other reasons ...

This is how disnfo works:

When they demolish the house and the sinkhole is shown and your warnings are proven wrong, your credibility and image to them is harmed. You can say ten thousand things right and one thing wrong and the one thing wrong harms your credibility regardless of the things right you said. You just end up looking like a person who cant think rationally and whose word and warnings cant be trusted. The purpose of disinfo is to undermine those seeking truth.

Good point.

There is MORE TO THIS STORY than the hole.

The entire coverage of it smells of either piss poor reporting (remember, this story has gone worldwide, not just local), a spin story, a cover-up, or fill-in-the-blank (more speculation welcome).

SO THE HOUSE IN FLORIDA HAD NO BASEMENT.....JUST A CONCRETE SLAB......

HOW CAN A PART OF A SLAB GIVE WAY TO A SINK HOLE, SWALLOW A MAN IN A REAR BEDROOM WITHOUT DISTURBING ANY WALLS OR THE ROOF LINE OF THE HOUSE????

DOES ANYONE HAVE A LEGITIMATE ANSWER OTHER THEN ENGINEERING ILLITERATE "NUTMEG"???
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 10217656

I see where you are going with this and you are doing it the wrong way. First of all, a sinkwhole can swallow an entire house let alone a tiny slab of concrete, second we have no material anywhere in the world that would not be "swallowed" if a big enough sink hole were to form. FFS DO SOME FUCKING RESEARCH.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 33142471

I understand that all caps, for a a paragraph or more is obnoxious but the point is quite valid. The entire bottom of the structure is one concrete slab, yet somehow a hole opened up in that solid slab, otherwise much more than just one bedroom, contained by walls would fall in.
Since it was only one room, how the hell did the hole come to be in the slab? I would understand if the whole thing started going down, but just one room is a little fishy.

Adding to this. Concrete foundations have iron rebar to keep it from cracking as the ground swells from rain and shrinks during dry weather.

IDK, this doesn't look right at all. If a sink hole did form under the house, there would have been at least some distortion of the entire structure. Follow me?

The only way such a specific hole could have formed in a concrete foundation is if the foundation was poured with no rebar, which doesn't seem likely if the house was built after say 1960.

A simple picture of the broken foundation (at least we could see how the foundation was poured) would suffice, but that isn't even being offered.

Something is fishy.

"Authorities abandoned efforts to recover the body of 36-year-old Jeff Bush on Saturday, saying the ground in the area was too unstable to support a search."

yet....

"Tomorrow, our contractor will move in on-site and finish the demolition," Merrill said. "They’ll pull out the rest of the structure, load it up and take it away."

Yeah....too unstable to allow a search, but stable enough for heavy equipment to move right on in and start bulldozing.

Seriously? Bulldozing on unstable ground? That makes absolutely no sense if there's a potential gaping underground hole under the house!

Okay, I read through a few pages of this thread but not the whole thing, so I don't know if this has all been addressed, but scrolling across the bottom of the CNN screen this morning was a message that the family had been allowed into the home to retrieve personal effects prior to the demolition. And you know that people are in and out of that house if they have determined the bizarre nature of this particular sinkhole - so still no pics?

Authorities on Sunday demolished most of a Florida home sitting over the 60-feet deep sinkhole that swallowed up part of the house and one of its residents three days ago.

The search for Jeff Bush, 37, was called off Saturday. Hillsborough County Fire Rescue spokeswoman Jessica Damico said Sunday that officials had used heavy equipment to drag some personal property to a "safe zone" established beyond the sidewalk of the home in the central Florida town of Seffner.

Damico said workers then sifted through the debris to recover what they could for the family. She said they were able to reclaim a purse, a wallet, some money from a dresser and two laptop computers from the rubble. A jewelry box, a Bible, a pink teddy bear and some pictures also were salvaged.

"We were able to get a couple family photos," she said. "They pulled out the only photo they had of their grandmother."

Neighbor Vernita Johnson said it was difficult to watch a family's home being torn down. "It's hard because I'm hurting with them," she said. "My son grew up with them.... We feel the pain."

Hillsborough County Administrator Mike Merrill said crews' goal for Sunday was to knock down the bulk of the house. On Monday they will clear the debris as much as possible to allow officials and engineers to see the sinkhole in the open."

According to the article I posted above, they are hoping to see the sinkhole in the open by tomorrow. But it makes you wonder how much they have been doing behind closed doors to dress the scene, so to speak, to make this 'sinkhole' look how they want it to look prior to revealing it.

Also, the information indicates that it is about 60 feet deep - and has to be smaller in diameter than the foundation of the bedroom at the entrance or we'd be seeing signs of the sinkhole around the edges of the home in aerial shots. Is that really as epic as they have lead us to believe? An 'unbelievable chasm unlike anything they've dealt with before'?

Here's an interesting from posted on a local Tampa online new site TBO.com
"I think it is absured that the county has a capable excavator, and they aren't planning on trying to recover the body of the deceased so that the family can have a proper burial. Revitment mats could be placed on the unstable ground so that the machine could have a stable platform to work from. I guess they just don't want to spend any money to recover a low income dead person.

I guess the moral to this story is if you are engulfed in a sinkhole in Hillborough County, then they leave you there. I bet those Miners in Chile are glad they weren't working in Hillbough County.

The more I think about this the more I think that Hillbough County doesn't want it to be known what caused this instability. Could it be caused by some type of erosion from faulty water mains, storm water or sewer drains? Could it be that the aquifer is so depleted that the earth is settling. Something is going on beneath the surface that caused this, and to not thoroughly"

I have to disagree. The house was constructed in the 70's. Concrete with Fiberglass Fiber added took the place of the need for wire mesh in low budget, concrete slab houses, which this home was.
