The only way to see the truth of life and the world and yourself is to be away from other people for a long time. Enlightenment is the child of freedom and solitude.

I believe it is your right to choose your path, regardless of the outcome. It is the most important thing that the universe can offer.

but joining the marines would just mean falling deeper in the illusion that still holds the majority of the mankind.

instead you should get in that state when you know about your mission, and dispel the illusion from there.

OP, just do what feels right for you. If you join the Marine Corps you will be a better man for it, and you will not lose your identity as a result.

Perhaps you have come to a point where you need external discipline to calm you and ground you to the realities of your existence, it is part of your spiritual journey.

You will see stuff you don't agree with and meet people you wouldn't go out with back in the US, but you will also meet people who will back you up 100% and wiser men who will guide you in your toughest moments.

You will also have a chance to educate yourself and if your become good at what you do you will be promoted and lead by example, YOUR example.

So don't be disheartnened, you are not a loser because you are taking a moral position on your feeling towards uour country and you are about to travel the world, so fuck what these people say amd follow your heart, for it is in the right place.

My only justification is that I truthfully can't say I know that the marines are controlled by evil. They do good things. I will kill, I have killed things before but never people....but I am an animal it is my identity. I am an animal, with skin, with hair, with blood, animals kill things, marines kill men, bad men. Ask Christ to be your Savior. Make a list of ten things everyday. Put one thing out of the ten that is to help someone else. Try to do all ten things that day. If not make another list at the end of the day and put the things you failed to do that day on a list of ten for the next day. When you get accustomed to that set a short term goal for the month. Take baby steps. Pray that the bad things in your character are refined. Let's say it is anger. Try to reduce it or remove it in 30 days. Pray to God through his Son and thank him in advance for the change. Read the bible. Set aside 30 minutes to connect spiritually every morning before you start your daily routines. I recommend the new testament to start. Concentrate on the life of Christ and what he says. You don't have to read alot. Read a part and medidtate on what it means in your life and those around you. See changes take place.

In your title, you asked for my advice. I will give it to you now, in my effort to be a light to my brother; a fellow conscious entity in our shared Reality.

I have dear friends who made the worst decision of their lives by enlisting. They are courageous, honorable men, who would give their lives for strangers. They are men among men, loyal to a fault to their loved ones. They were this way -before- they joined the marines, and are still this way -despite- what 3+ tours in Iraq and Afghanistan did to them, and the horrors they saw, and the "orders" they were duty-bound to follow.
These are men who have taken lives based on orders. They, and not I, use the word "murder" to describe their actions more often than not. They have been on the ground, in the action, for months at a time. Atrocities and horrors I only believe because I have known them since I was young, and they would not mislead me. Not about this. I have seen their eyes, and their eyes did not hold a lie.

2 are suicidal, and one of those two has kids and a wife. He does not kill himself because he lives for his family now, and I am grateful for his stalwart attitude towards his duty as a man with a family.

Yeah, because we all know it's humanly impossible for a person to be swayed one way or another due to his own conscience.

You are not an animal. You are a human. It is human nature to save and protect people. Humans that have risen above the animal nature are compassionate and empathetic. Because they have suffered, they don't wish to cause suffering to others. Whether you join the military or not, be human. Be fully human. Human are humane. Love yourself with all the love you can give yourself, be compassionate with yourself and for goodness sakes be humane to yourself. But to light a path to get there, we will need to plug in the three great lights of the world, and by understanding the path they all three took, to become God/men, we will get a single clear path out of all the confusion.

Enlightenment will include the hive mind, giving you all knowledge, and all power, but what it takes to get there, that path can be brutal. It was for me.
