The MiG 31, and its predecessor, the MiG 25, aren't designed for dogfights. But for what they can do, they are lethal if given the RIGHT mission. A pair of MiG 25 foxbats from Syria can fly at Mach 2. They don't even need to slow down for SAMs, since they can just go full throttle to Mach 2.8, out of the reach of most SaMs.
