CAR GURUS, please help me.
95 integra ls with a 1.8, 132k

oil light came on while driving, stopped to a store. no oil. put in the oil, try and start it and it turns over but then a loud POP/BANG happens and sounds like its coming from the exhaust at the back. tow it home. pull off the valve cover, one of the little rocker arms inside had come off and was laying in there. put it back on. started the car right up, ran great. let it run for a few. cut it off. looked around inside the engine bay some more. cranked it again. same thing. turned over and then a loud pop. thought to myself, rocker arm probably came back off. pulled off the valve cover, rocker arm still in place. timing LOOKS to be on (the belt does have a little slack, it's not super tight)

Note: probably not related, but i will mention that when my car was running before this, the RPMS rev up and down while idling, back and forth back and forth.

someone please help me i dont wanna pay an arm and a leg to a mechanic if me and a buddy can do this job. thank you so much GLP, blue skies.

is your timing belt tensioned from oil pressure?
Im wondering if your timing went off and a valve hit the piston? you may now have a broken valve.

you have possibly done a lot of other damage as well though.

Re: CAR GURUS, please help me.
If the loud pop was a backfire then it's probably a timing problem. You need to replace that timing belt and hope you did no real damage like bent valves and that sort of thing.

If the car is good shape keep it and rebuild or swap engine.

I hate white 19 year olds with shaved heads that beat the piss out of integras and think they can handle it and they only thing they do to the cars is put red vacuum hoses on them and walmart racing stickers on the windows, and don't forget the red and black plastic steering wheel covers

( and think they are cool doing those things too )

Spend your 650.00 (not on another pos beater from jose down the street) and buy a good bicycle...good exercise and the only thing you can beat on is your meat.

Re: CAR GURUS, please help me.
you are out of time. Throw a timing belt on it and give it a try. You most likely smacked a valve with a piston, that's why you ejected the rocker arm. Maybe you will get lucky, engines don't do well going 10 miles without oil.

Re: CAR GURUS, please help me.
I think you may have a non interference motor, the valve does not interfere with the piston if it breaks the timing belt or jumps time. I think that is why you could put the rocker back on and it would run. An interference motor would bend or break the valves and maybe mess up the piston and cylinder walls. The popping was from the valve sticking shut when the rocker came off. Might be lucky to replace the rocker and maybe the valve. Is it a VTEC?

Maybe the rocker came loose and you bent a valve. it's a big job to fix. The oil is probably just a coincidence. Good luck to ya. I just lost my motor at 80k cost me $3700.

The thing with valve timing being out might be it comes with hydrolic valve adjuster and is either seized or has failed to fill with oil

Let's keep it simple get a compression tester and test the cylinders

It should reveal a leaky valve

Broken valve repair. New top end possiblg new bottom block also. The car would start but sound really rough much like how you describe. Sounds like engine job

Re: CAR GURUS, please help me.
Had a 92 plymouth voager and blew a timing belt in the wendy drive thru lane.

Luckily it was a non-interference motor. Although the van didn't last much longer after the new timing belt.

I'd go with either you fried a lifter running no oil or possibly cam finished (lobe worn). Obviously rocker issue.. Stripped maybe ?

Get a GM ! I love them personally. Have a 2002 Oldsmobile Silhouette. Nice ride, next best thing to a Cadillac ! Put in HID headlight and fog light system 55watt. Just installed a Alpine dvd/nav system/ p2 10" subs x2 400w amp with backup camera and rear view mirror with lcd display. I like my toys can U tell. Where I come from we call it.. Jon-Guyed !!Lol!

It's the second Gm van I've had, had 1998 Trans Sport also for 8 years! Neither van has had any issues with intake/head gasket thus far !! They like to rust tho.. Silhouette is ok so far..

Good luck.
