Anonymous Coward User ID: 19921272 United States 03/03/2013 10:47 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I have a 01 silverado 6 cyl. that I overheated once and the lifters started to tap , I changed the oil , use a light weight 5w 30 or better yet the 0w 30 and add a additive to it, I cant remember which one I used but shop around for a engine treatment that quiets noisy engines. It worked within a few hours of driving and after about 2 weeks you could barely hear it , 270,000 miles and counting be sure to change the oil often until the tapping stops |

If you're using 10W20 try 10W30 in there your next oil change. Thicker oil sometimes makes the noise go away. Almost every Chrysler 3 liter has lifter noise, some even fresh out of the factory. There have been people who have replaced the lifters on Chrysler 3 liters and they are still noisy. It's just a peculiarity of the engine. Don't worry about it, try the heavier oil and drive it till it falls apart. |
