Middle of the night window knocking

I always chalk it up to your spirit guides or guardian angels trying to get your attention. If they wake you up, there is a good reason. Could one of you possible have sleep apnea?

One time I had just painted my daughters room and I told her that she had to keep the door open to air it out that night so the fumes wouldn't harm her.

In the middle of the night I was awoken by my doorbell ringing over and over again. I got up and looked around and no one was there. Then I noticed my daughter had closed her door. So I reopened it again. I always believed that the doorbell was to get me to awake and take care of a potentially dangerous situation.

Were you freaked out? Because I kind of am, and that's not usual for me.

Well, that's comforting.

Some people hear loud bangs in very light sleep.

It depends if you are visual, audible or kinesthetic dominant.



If you often use phrases that involve audio over vision...i.e. I'll talk to you later versus I'll see you later.

or


I hear what you are saying vs I see what you are saying


If you often use the audible form, you may be audibly dominant. Which means you may hear loud impulses just as you cross into light sleep. Which can be in the middle of the night.

Visual people see bright flashes or lots of phosphene effects.

Kinesthetics will have strange smells, tastes and emotions.

I'm definitely more visual than audible. I'm an artist (sort of:), and just very visually oriented.

My husband is more audible, and he heard the knocking about a year ago. I just don't know, but it was very strange.

Neither of us has sleep apnea, but I like the spirit guide idea much better than alien abduction.

Probably a bird. They love looking through windows and also tap them loudly three times. It's just a little game they play amongst themselves to scare us human beans :-)

It is none of that. It is going on here in Philly. It is a way fro robbers to get you to open the door! For about 2 weeks now, off and on, a few nights a week, we have 'kids' at like 2 am 3 am knock on the door and run, then the windows. Our neighbors have had it as well as people on the street behind us. THREE people have gone out to look and got robbed! Load the gun, do not open your door. I guess home invaders have gotten lazy, and want you to open the door for them now.

when we were kids about 10yrs old we would stick a glove on the end of a broom handle and knock on the second floor window at night.

I was awakened a few nights ago by 2 maybe three knocks at my door. This is not as uncommon as you might think.
It's entirely possible I was dreaming but it was the shortest dream ever and woke me out of a deep sleep. (not likely)

It is a well known and quite common phenomena commonly known as "exploding head syndrome" or "hypnic jerk". There are no known causes or conditions other than a correlation with tiredness and/or stress. I imagine there will be plenty of information available if you wanted to google those terms for more information.

Take your double barreled shotgun and go out on your balcony. Shoot both barrels into the night air. If someone comes to the door later just shoot through the door.

Sort of? Your an artist 100% if you think you are one.

You can be an artist and still be audibly dominant. It just means how you filter data through your conscious mind.

Most people are Visual > Audible > Kinesthetic (VAK for short)

Meaning, if you are given a story with three details, you will not fully understand it until it is processed in order. Which means a video cue for a person who is video dominant.

ie- I saw the fire, heard the crackling and felt the heat on my skin. (VAK)

ie- I felt the heat on my skin, heard the crackling and I saw the fire.


Which one was confusing until the end?

Because your mind doesn't want to understand sounds until it gets a visual cue to follow up with. In such circumstances, the listener needs to remember the details then dump it if out of order. Which often causes confusion.

But if the conversation follows the person order, they get it as it is told to them. They follow the conversation well and understand very well.

I don't think so :) my neighborhood is VERY quiet, not the kind of place where kids are out at 4 in the morning. Also, if there was anyone out there, I'd have seen them when I put the light on.

Whatever is was, it was kind of strange, I'm still processing it, especially since my husband (who doesn't believe in anything he can't measure, calibrate or dissect), had a similar experience.

Hmm, definitely either the first one, or second one. I still heard what I heard though, it was a very distinctive sound.
When my husband heard the knocking, he heard it on our bedroom window, I heard it on the living room window. Either way, very weird.

I do have a lot of stress currently, and I'm always afraid my head will explode.

Didn't it sound very real to you? That's the strangest part for me, it sounded like someone knocking on my living room window. I know what that sounds like because when my kids were still at home, they'd often forget their keys and knock on that window.
