LoL
why move out and abandon your family , in other countries failure to launch does not exist.

Please explain? Why?
 Quoting: George B

maybe they mean that it's normal to live with your parents a lot longer, elsewhere in the world. I suspect that the usual American way has been socially engineered into us.
Smaller households mean we don't get the benefit of economies of scale and are more likely to take on debt.

Have you considered talking to a friend?

:144:
 Quoting: George B

Hi, I haven't been truthful about that part, I don't really have any close friends, all the "friends" I have are fellow actors/directors, musicians, but we don't hang out other than on a set or at a show.
 Quoting: The Skeptic 40689672

So there is no one you feel close enough to talk about your feelings . . . ? How about a relative . . . ? a teacher, pastor, a respected fellow actor?
 Quoting: George B

Unfortunately I don't, I only have myself. left my gf of 4 years, 8 months ago. She wanted to move in with me, and I didn't want to.

I thought waiting tables and bartending came with the music and acting territory.

Re: Why are there so many "failure-to-Launch Young Men" .. . .? . . .select the most likely reason . ..
Why I started this Thread to begin with . . .

Being a guy I was seeing too many young men afraid to risk anything which could make them uncomfortable or possibly fail. . . IMO video games, porn, alcohol and drugs are crutches that numb too many into accepting third place in life. . . .

Seems guys are much more likely to suffer the "failure to launch syndrome" than women (my theory is video games at too early an age has something to do with this . . .women seem more immune to it or simply are not interested). . . I saw this as men became less and less represented in many professional schools including law and medicine . . .

It is easier to never risk than to try and fail. . . we have a real problem with the future when half of us don't step up and accept responsibility . . . I am afraid that is where we are headed. . . .many women are alone . . . I hope they can succeed without the support of these men. . . .peace

"Failure-to-Launch" means young men living in their parent's basement (or something like the basement) instead of living on their own and are not employed or are under employed because of a lack of motivation or fear of failure . . . they may or may not have a girlfriend and have no ambition or desire to get married and start a family of their own . . . etc.

 Quoting: George B

I don't, they have jobs and feel secure.

you'd be letting the bad guys win. Living at home makes much more sense to me than going into debt, or something. Any way you can live more cheaply, and hopefully save, is a great idea. don't be fooled into letting "societys'" undervaluation of your potential and worth become your view as well. It's actually your talents and your power that the elites fear, and seek to neutralize, by making you feel hopeless.
 Quoting: chauchat

Yeah but you don't know the whole story.

I have a Masters Degree and somehow I have no motivation to teach, I could do translation work with my degree and I don't either. Instead, I focus all my time on acting and music, which isn't what my parents had hoped for.

Now yesterday, my dad said that he'd get me an interview at a job search company, so I could either work in customer service, translation work etc. I'm just not interested at all, but what am I supposed to do? Well I'll have to find a part time job I guess, and get out of the house for good.

I can relate to this thread!! I just don't want to have a full time job, I don't want a family and I don't care about material stuff, I just want to live a simple life, doing what I love. I would stay at home longer, but it seems that my parents are forcing my hand, and I'm not sure If I'll want to talk to them anymore if things end up going their way. Yes I am spoiled, and I have no debt, I drive a car (that I don't own, they do) if I need to go to the gym or to auditions. I'm pretty depressed right now, but I guess I'll have to face reality eventually.
 Quoting: The Skeptic 40689672

You should be thanking your parents that they are giving you the boot! Grow up! When you have to start paying your own way, then your own determination to succeed will kick in. To make it as an actor, you have to have a lot of determination, so the sooner you get started on it, the better.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 36370061

Yes but I can't thank them if they're trying to get me a full time job and make me stay in the house, save up, then buy a condo and paying half for it. If I want to do acting or music, I can't have a full time job. I think I'll get a bartending licence and move out.

That's the thing, they are not giving me the boot, they want me to have a job, save up, then buy something (with their help), instead of paying rent. It's all good, but it won't allow me to do what I really want to do! Anyway It's depressing, I'm considering suicide at this point.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 40689672

I feel the same way as your parents may feel. My in-laws gave us money for a down-payment, and then over the years, gave us large sums for us to invest as we saw fit. We chose to pay down our mortgage and quickly owned our house free and clear. At the time, they were avoiding very high inheritance tax, by lessening their eventual estate in advance.

for us, having that money in advance tax-free was worth so much more. We avoided years of mortgage interest which would have added substantially to the price we actually paid. Being able to pay cash for everything is a huge savings.
It seems quite possible that your parents' financial help is not because they regard you as incapable, or a failure, or a matter of their wanting to control you, but a perfectly sound financial approach. I'm sure they prefer their own son to have their money than have it taxed away to strangers, or to have your money go for debt servicing.

I certainly can't enjoy my money[such as it is] if I'm worried sick about my children being taken advantage of, because I neglected to give them help when it was within my power to do so.. Never take the conventional view of anything, i say, and don't worry about what views have been socially engineered into everybody else, b/c it didn't happen that way to benefit the receiver of the 'received wisdom'.

Yes I do see why they want to do that, to help me out, but on the other hand, I don't want to have a full-time job and save up for a condo. I am lazy, spoiled, I stay up all night (hello, I'm posting at 3:40am here.) so why wouldn't it be better if I was gone, as I am a living disease, sucking on its host?!

ps: I was helping out my mom/grandmother today by bringing them to the cancer clinic, my grandmother is terminal and has been living with us recently. We saw a 7 y/o girl there, getting her mold made for her treatment of a brain tumor, it was hard not to cry about it. Her parents, brother was there with her, I feel for the family.

Re: Why are there so many "failure-to-Launch Young Men" .. . .? . . .select the most likely reason . ..
I would consider myself one of these "failure-to-launch" young men, but not how you may think. A lot of replies on this thread seem to be from people who aren't these types of men. So let me give you all some perspective here from someone who truely understands these men, because I am one.

First of all, video games aren't the problem. I have been playing video games my entire life starting from NES when I was around 5 up through present day where I currently play ~30 hours a week. For me, the enjoyment of video games comes from playing with a close group of friends and competing in various online games. The feeling of dominating another team with my friends in whatever game it may be is hard to beat. When I play alone, I quickly lose interest and I feel it becomes more of a waste of time than anything. For those that don't know, competing in video games with a team follows the same exact parallels as an actual sports team, only without the physical aspects. In my opinion, video games alone is just a distraction, just like movies, tv, internet, sports...it all serves the same purpose, to keep us from doing what we should be doing. So everyone, not just these types of men, have distractions they must deal with on a daily basis.

Next, I am currently pursuing a masters in engineering, while at the same time mainting a serious relationship and renting an apartment which I pay for. While this is clearly not defined as "failure-to-launch", I currently have 0 motivation and outlook on my future. I feel like I have nothing to look forward to, almost like nothing excites me anymore. I'm not super excited to start a family, or to be employed at what more than likely would be a well paying job. It has nothing to do with fear of failure, but more to do with motivation.

A lot of my friends are in similar situations, they seem to have no drive or incentive to "launch". I believe it comes from the fact that there is nothing in the world that we would want to work or fight for. We all clearly see the state of the world, and how those in power can manipulate and control those below them. Why should we commit to a system that we know is already flawed? It is better for us to simply enjoy what we do together and say fuck it to everything that we are "supposed" to be doing, i.e. career/family.

For me, if there was some idea or purpose that I could relate to and want to pursue that would be worth while, I would do anything and everything I could to realize that. But in the world today, there is no such idea, only "go to college, get married, buy a house, start a family, become a slave".....fuck that.

It's all rubbish, everything. Even that which is worthwhile will turn out to be shit. Stick to Chemtrail threads, at least that has some backbone.

You're doing great, smoke one up and relax, your life is great! Go and get a drink. Hell I'm gonna do just that tonight, probably find a girl to have sex with. Thank god I look half decent ( I work out at the gym 6/7 days), or else I'd have more stuff to whine about and more reasons to kill myself.

This is what I said, not investing in the way we are living now, and I am proud to have among my friends a friend that is the number 1 sniper in a game that has 40,000 playing. :) I think it's hysterical and I am proud of him .......bestest sniper, one of my bestest friends.......nice to meet whoever you are, I like you.

 Quoting: The Skeptic 40337054

I just wanted to somehow express that if you are feeling so much pressure to follow a course you know is wrong for you, from family, [ yourself,] and/or "society" , though doubtless well-intentioned, I hope you'll consider -IMO- its' real origins, and who really benefits. Aggregate business owners' bottom lines benefit from socially atomized, desperate worker pool who will put up with low pay, and every other indignity, for the "privilege" of having a job. And creditors love debtors, specially if they pay only the monthly minimum, stringing out payments forever and into the stratosphere, who have to "finance" everything, and don't prepay mortgages.

""" so why wouldn't it be better if I was gone, as I am a living disease, sucking on its host?!"""

Please? don't allow any person, even yourself, to judge your worth, potential, and value of your continued existence, especially since judgements are so skewed by exquisitely designed and targeted modern brainwashing.

A family plan that there is a loser that never leaves to take care of the parents at some later point in time. Always assuming that a kid can't manage, will never make it, hoping they will not marry. Instilling those thoughts in them causing them feel inadequate and incompetent (why even try) and all done mainly on an unconcious level. The parents then get to feel superior on top of it all.

Dasturdly thoughts now on glp, I disown them completely, nonsensical.

I found the negative brain entrainment thing I was looking for but the website was soo black that I couldn't post it here. I don't remember if certain brain entrainment can create situation hypnosis or even remember what I read but it exists and I am still sort of looking for it. It doesn't google up under anything like negative brain entrainment. So what I am saying is I think it is possible that negative programming can occur at the time of this entrainment which seemed to be kind of a shock to the brain which then caused it to forget or something. I am just thinking how video games could cause behavior to change. I don't know. I kind of hope I don't find it......

instead of playing video games for 30 hours a week, why don't you guys learn a new skill that will be needed after teotwawki? or a skill that will help the earth replenish itself.
gardening is an excellent skill, and it is one where you can always learn more. premaculture knowledge is needed everywhere.
or you could seriously study meditation and spirituality. humanity will also need people who are calm and non-reactionary in the coming times.
even playing real sports is a better use of time, seeing as you are actually getting exercise.
there are so many other, more useful ways to be spending your time than wasting it playing video games.

I'm a young guy (24)living in a house with a great girlfriend, and I am tired of all the trash talk my generation gets from the previous generation. Although you are our ancestors, we do not look up, or respect you that much, as elders should be patient, wise, and helpful, this mellow aging process has seemed to skip a generation.

When the boomers were my age, they were hippies who slept around with anyone, doing LSD, pot, acid, while avoiding responsibility, hygiene, and any form of work. The hippy movement was political and I respect the protests and activists.

However, it was undermined and taken over, and the hippies grew up to be the most selfish, materialistic generation in the last few thousand years---> absolutely turning their backs on their virtues and everything they preached...dropping peace and love to go chase money and bullshit 'careers'

My parents are retired and still buy a new car almost every year, rather than invest it, or save it for their kids futures...

The future will be very different boomers, and your kids are not going to put a halt to this current system collapsing, as a new world will arise from its ashes, one free of economic slavery. Before it is done, you will be asked to take a good look in the mirror, and you may not like what you see. So Mote it Be!
