Being a guy I see many young men not living for anything but themselves. . . or are too afraid to risk anything which could make them uncomfortable or possibly fail. . . video games, porn, alcohol and drugs are crutches that numb them into accepting third place in life. . . .

Seems guys are much more likely to suffer the "failure to launch syndrome" than women (my theory is video games at too early an age has something to do with this . . .women seem more immune to it or simply are not interested). . . I saw this as men became less and less represented in many professional schools including law and medicine . . .

It is easier to never risk than to try and fail. . . we have a real problem with the future unless half of us don't step up and accept responsibility . . . I am afraid that is where we are headed. . . .many women are alone . . . I hope they can succeed without the support of most men. . . .peace

as there is only one answer allowed, Id have to go with feminism. the constraints feminism puts on men, how they behave, constant shaming through the media, the law and society ready to slam down on men, are all restrictive factors.
a man and a woman go out, have a drink, end up n bed, she regrets it, cries rape..he ends up in court!
thats one scenario. feminism has backfired, you go guurrrlll!
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 34616551

its not feminisms fault - it is that men who were so used to dominating the hell out of everything - including nature - finally had to play on an "even" playing field - they had to actually start COMPETING for jobs, and education, and respect, and power etc etc...

and it looks as if THEY are failing - not all, but some - to blame women is only another example of how some men would prefer the world were still in the dark ages.

men, instead of blaming women, try to figure out how they are doing it? and what men could learn from them.

a man who blames feminism - which is only a word a man gave to a movement for woman who wanted things ohhh like - the right to vote, the right to go to college, the right for fair wages -the right to move ahead in a job- etc etc -

a man who blames a woman for wanting to know her true god given potential - and to play in the field of all that life has to offer - is a weak, ignorant, little boy - who certainly has NO IDEA what it actually means to be a fully realized man.

OP - you suck for creating a poll - that only has ONE answer - blame the women. Are you that afraid and incompetent to be an equal to a woman?

My son will make a great husband. He's loyal, hardworking and knows the value of committed relationship. He can be lazy but only when he's unmotivated.
Men are like lions laying about in the heat of the african sun. That is ok.

I don't know about the world at large, but my husband, I can tell you his issues.
Living with him is like living with a child most of the time.
He never holds a job long and when he does make it past 6 months he starts self sabotaging it.
I tried to be a homemaker as that role fulfills me completely but he won't allow it for long.
He will bitch and complain that we need more money and when I've heard enough and go back to work he quits his job within a few weeks every time.
Whether I am working or not I am still the one who cleans, cooks, takes care of him, of anything needed done, and takes care of our pets.
He will spend all his time playing games, getting f*d up, porn, and sleeping.
He never picks up after himself or does anything I ask him to.
If he does it may be months later after asking and then it is done begrudgingly.
Sex?
Maybe once every 2-3 months if lucky.
I'm sure his hand gets more sex than I do
He has been like this since the day we met and when I was in my younger days that was fine but I grew up.
We are now in our mid 30's and nothing much has changed.
He lies to me and everyone else plus he steals from places he works and lies to me about that too.
Then he gets caught and fired and places the blame on me as to why there is no money.
I can tell you with 100% truthfulness that if the world don't end and our species continues on then the next time I marry it will be with an older man who is mature.
In fact I would urge all women who are dating these man boys to please reconsider.
Take it from me and learn from my mistakes that it will only bring you pain in the future.
Marry someone who can and will take care of themselves not some boy who is only leaving one mamma for another.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 26692909

Why did you marry him?

I don't understand the logic of some women. A friend of mine chases a guy who treats her like crap, admits he's sleeping around. Meanwhile another guy (her former obsession) is great to her and she "lost interest"

I don't understand....
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 35584027

I married for love or what I thought was love while young then I grew up and he didn't as I had hoped he would.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 26692909

the question is - are you happy? happy with this "love", this man, this life you two have created? if the answer is no - or the percentage is 60 no/40 yes - Then my question to you is: who are you living for? Are you living for his happiness to the exclusion of yours? are you making his life more important than yours?
if you are still in love - and not happy - then you need to find a way to make yourself happy inside your marriage - with or WITHOUT him. Sounds as if he has it quite cushy like a lot of men who find a woman to mommy them.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 97102

No! A big resounding no and I haven't been happy in years.
If it were a percentage I'd say 10/90 being the 10% happy.
I have stayed in the marriage because I was serious about my vows when we wed and where I come form you don't leave a marriage just unless someone cheats on you or hits you.
But over the years the love has left because quite frankly it's hard to be in love and feel intimate towards someone who acts like a child.
I think in part I have stayed with him for his happiness because his whole family except for a sister who lives on the other side of the US is deceased.
He literally has no one and has burned many bridges.
I think that my fear of what will become of him has kept me here this long.
I am leaving but it does suck that someone whom I care about with such charisma and intelligence should waste it away on nothing.

The trend nowadays is for parents to coddle their children and not push them out of the nest so they will become INDEPENDENT. A lot of these weirdos don't WANT their kids to grow up. It's freaking bizarre.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 32895948

Interesting position . . . do parents coddle boys more than girls?coffee4
 Quoting: George B

i don't think its about coddling. its about the fear that parents live under these days of kids being kidnapped etc. so they don't let them go anywhere by themselves until theyre 15 - can you imagine? having to be at home or with an parent escort inside most of your life because of the fear of stupid men taking their kids!

this is whats happend. so now kids stay at home, eat, play video games, watch tv and let their brains turn to mush....

i blame the illegal immigrants...on that front

over the last 30 years? no they have been sucking hind tit to all women and non whites.notice how everyone is included in everything except the white male?yet we are all equal.why do you think that is?it's simple, they need a handy cap, they do this through school and propaganda.

another part to it is this, back in the 80's the foundation was stripped from the homes"the father" in his place the single mother was promoted, they turned the father into dead beat dads.they promoted a single mother that can do no wrong.so alot of lil boys grew up 1 with out the foundation,2 with a mother that was to busy leaping from man to man rather than making a family and allowing the father to do his role"teach, instill morals, work ethic" while the mothers role is to back up what father does and also nurture.so instead since mommy could'nt fill dads shoes the gov ran school system,t.v,movies, and the thugs down the street raised them....

I hate all the shows my daughter watches on family channel
They portray all men... young or old as idiots
Its not just kids shows
Most prime time sitcoms do the same thing
All men are shown as dumb idiots and all the women are shown as smart and successfull
WTF....
Look for it next time you watch tv

BTW, even as a woman I think men get a horrible deal in the case of divorce. My brother had to pay out $5,000 a month when his wife dumped him. Then as a self employed his business went up and down until after 10 years it was dead.
She still hauled him into court, threatened with jail by the judge, and he did sell his house.

But a man loses EVERYTHING, his children in the morning, most of his income..if I were a man I would lose my mind with that kind of pressure.

When I left my husband I didn't want his paltry contribution or his rages because the thread of money is a tie that sometimes begs for trouble to the child. That was the case with me and did get full custody, and he relinquished it willingly because he didn't want the responsibility which served me for the first time in the decade we were together.

I still love men. Just not the crazy ones who share billing with crazy women.

I don't understand the logic of some women. A friend of mine chases a guy who treats her like crap, admits he's sleeping around. Meanwhile another guy (her former obsession) is great to her and she "lost interest"

I don't understand....

I married for love or what I thought was love while young then I grew up and he didn't as I had hoped he would.

the question is - are you happy? happy with this "love", this man, this life you two have created? if the answer is no - or the percentage is 60 no/40 yes - Then my question to you is: who are you living for? Are you living for his happiness to the exclusion of yours? are you making his life more important than yours?
if you are still in love - and not happy - then you need to find a way to make yourself happy inside your marriage - with or WITHOUT him. Sounds as if he has it quite cushy like a lot of men who find a woman to mommy them.

 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 26692909

those vows were created by who? I guarantee you it wasn't a woman, or even with a womans input. it was a caggle of men who wanted to own you -a woman. god did not make that religion - man did. put it this way. when the religion created the vows of marriage - the average lifespan was probably 38 - and they didn't have match.com, or clubs, etc etc.
your staying is hurting him also - and you martyering yourself for HIM AND HIS FAMILY gets you NO extra points in heaven - I PROMISE. god will most likely just ask - did you realize your full potential? did you love, were you happy, did you bring peace - was your heart uplifted with my glory?

im not so religious but I understand. i truly hope you are leaving...perhaps he will finally grow up, and will one day thank you for stopping his infantilism into old age!

Re: Why are there so many "failure-to-Launch Young Men" .. . .? . . .select the most likely reason . ..
Being a guy I see many young men not living for anything but themselves. . . or are too afraid to risk anything which could make them uncomfortable or possibly fail. . . video games, porn, alcohol and drugs are crutches that numb them into accepting third place in life. . . .

Seems guys are much more likely to suffer the "failure to launch syndrome" than women (my theory is video games at too early an age has something to do with this . . .women seem more immune to it or simply are not interested). . . I saw this as men became less and less represented in many professional schools including law and medicine . . .

It is easier to never risk than to try and fail. . . we have a real problem with the future unless half of us don't step up and accept responsibility . . . I am afraid that is where we are headed. . . .many women are alone . . . I hope they can succeed without the support of most men. . . .peace

men through our gov aND powers that be have been demonized.they are told we are all equal,so if they are told this all the time it makes them start to believe in it.then they give up because that coupled with how the women are given the leg up in damn near everything now'because we are all equal"so men stop caring.real men have been beaten down through the courts for atleast 30 years now.

the lil boy back then grew up watching how beaten down their dad was by the system that they dare not tread where pops treaded before.the ones
that do get shown real quick just how evil women are at their core.A lion has a bigger heart than a woman...

Interesting thoughts . . . you think boys were not allowed to compete on a level ground ??? coffee4
 Quoting: George B

over the last 30 years? no they have been sucking hind tit to all women and non whites.notice how everyone is included in everything except the white male?yet we are all equal.why do you think that is?it's simple, they need a
handy cap, they do this through school and propaganda.

another part to it is this, back in the 80's the foundation was stripped from the homes"the father" in his place the single mother was promoted, they turned the father into dead beat dads.they promoted a single mother that can do no wrong.so alot of lil boys grew up 1 with out the foundation,2 with a mother that was to busy leaping from man to man rather than making a family and allowing the father to do his role"teach, instill morals, work ethic"
while the mothers role is to back up what father does and also nurture.so instead since mommy could'nt fill dads shoes the gov ran school system,t.v,movies, and the thugs down the street raised them....

I don't disagree with your observations; however, I have found young men from stable two parent families with successful traditional fathers who are NOT Launching either. . . .how does one explain that ????huffy

Young men have been allowed to grow up fully self-centred.
If its not for them, they are not interested.

Curious, are you male or female?

Have Young Men launched in the past? Is not launching new?
 Quoting: WindyMind

It means they are living in their parent's basement (or something like the basement) instead of living on their own and are not employed or are under employed because of a lack of motivation or fear of failure . . . they may or may not have a girlfriend and have no ambition or desire to get married and start a family of their own . . . etc. . . .baby

the ones that are like that are in most cases raised in a father-less home......

what are you talking about? this country is full of excellent parents. you act as if we are a nation of dopers. you act like from the 60s on there was a hippie movement where people thought it cool to just get high maaaan, and the world will fix itself everythings so beautiful, and then these people had kids and raised them like that or did drugs around them. and then harder drugs came like herion, then cocaine, the crack, then meth, then bathsalts, you act like this is some vicious cycle. /sarcasm
