How about someone who was born in 1940 as I was...

I have been around a considerable amount of time and my mother was talking about biblical prophesy and the end times when I was growing up. Her father - my grandfather was a Jehovah Witness and he was talking about Armageddon even in his time.

I do see a kind of technological take-over and wonder where that is going to end... but all the trends that you see multiplying and coming to a head in the very near future somehow seem to never occur, judging by how the generations have been expecting it for as long as I can remember and this old world just keeps rolling along.

I am concerned about the oceans however.

There is a good thread on the geo- engineering that is interfering with the natural rhythms of mother earth.

I will put my 2 cents

There are 2 issues here.
The first one lets call it "nature", it is what we still havent conquered and controlled. Like our universe, galaxies and the stars there, our solar system, the sun, comets, asteroids etc, the EARTH, its weather, quakes, volcanos, icecaps, floods etc. as well as the microcosmos, eg. virus etc.
These issues we still STUDY, and we study them from the appearance of the mankind, and now we have more knowledge (or we think we have) but still we are in the first chapters.
We can change a rivers flow, can put barracks for floods, can dry a lake or a swamp, we can flat a hill, open holes in a mountain, cut down some forests, make fields etc. or fight a virus, a disease, a small epidemic
but
If a big natural event is to take place tomorrow, we can do nothing to prevent it and very little to handdle its results.

The second one is "mankind", our recent living situation, and our inpact on this planet.
We do have a population growth, we have conquered more land than ever in our history (according to the known data ok?), we established societies that grew in parallel to each other and interacted to each other in piece and in war, we gained knowledge from each other, all our known history is steps that lead to the "one world governement", we are closer now, than ever.
Is this good or bad? If you see it theoretically, it is good. We are all humans, we should work all together for the common good.
In a "perfect world" we would live a decent, peaceful life, with technology that serves the society and in balance with nature and still gain knowledge of our world and the cosmos around us, as well as our ownselves (who we are etc)
We all know we dont live in this perfect world, and the people in charge (in politics, economy, religion etc) all have their own versions of how this perfect world should look like, in order to serve THEM better.
The bad news is that they have much power, the good news is that whatever they do or can achieve so far, they dont control either our present or our future, period. So there will be fighting, no doubt.

Oh the people, unfortunately we havent grown much individually. And this serves perfectly our recent leaders.

Yes, technology is a great thing but, you can not eat it. So, unless we combine this with exponential growth in agriculture we are all doomed to a soylent green hell.

I will never buy into the hype of synthetic meat, syn this, syn that...y'know, have you ever watched an old 40's/50's movie and watched them eat? I would think we live in a 3rd world fast-food hell already, looking back on the healthy-sized portions and DAMN good-looking, REAL food we used to consume.

Some are coming to believe that science for the common man is dead. Which means, no more garage-based eureka wonders by curious minds that might blow the lid off something undiscovered. True or not, perception rules the day.

How will a child that hears this for the 1st time, before even entering a science class (do they still have them?) react? Not very interested, I imagine.

The last thing we need right now, is to want or look forward to another whiz-bang piece of corporate-branded, privacy invading, globally-reaching, police state technology; which does nothing to solve the core problems of our society.
