These 11 States now have More People on Welfare than they do Employed! | |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 13694240 United States 03/05/2013 01:42 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Gee, surprise, surprise - both of the states that Barry calls home are listed ! Quoting: Anonymous Coward 33838111 isn't that interesting??? and how many of those states went for obama in the last election. The South was almost exclusively RED states during the election but yet we are on this list and likely will be forever more now. We already had many counties with a "minority majority" of ration of more blacks than whites even before the more recent influx of all the illegal aliens. Now we are completely over run. Many people do not realize this and that it conbtributes to our chronic poverty. And this is not a racist statement. It's just a fact that minorities have greater participation in welfare programs, higher crime rates and other social problems. I have no answer for any of this and really feel like just giving up now. Pretty hopeless. The good guys lost. The South has been dirt poor since the end of plantations and slavery. The past few decades of bullshit air-conditioned NASCAR McMansion prosperity have been nothing more than an illusory anomaly drying up with loss of oil production. Now they're going back to sharecropping and poverty as they were before. The Mexicans will then sneak back across the border to Mexico, where there are better jobs waiting for them. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 26194713 United States 03/05/2013 01:54 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | The link above doesn't list any states. The states the OP lists are discussed on the Forbes website [link to www.forbes.com] in an article entitled "Do You Live In A Death Spiral State." The focus of that article is is overall dependence on govt money. The 11 states listed are fiscally shaky because of the number of people depending on govt money and that includes things like percentage of govt workers and existence of anti-private-sector policies. That being said, back to the original link. There is some very interesting information found there. And I agree with all of you that are saying, "where are these $25 an hour jobs?" No sh*t! But the link does state that the $25 is household income per hour, not individual income. Basically, the senate link above says that total welfare spending per day for families below the poverty level is $168, which equates to the equivalent of receiving $30 per hour. But for people who are working and not below poverty level, the median household income is $137 a day, which is $21-$25 an hour/household, minus taxes. Welfare is not taxed. It proves what many of us that have worked our a**ses off have suspected all along about entitlements. It also addresses the programs that are included in this study. And no, Social Security and Medicare are not included. What is included in these numbers are programs the recipient does not pay into, such as food stamps, free housing, child care. The working class is getting screwed big time! |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 35585999 according to who ? a top carpenter in new england was good for that in 2007. now many of those same carpenters are working for $15.00 hr. i'm sure many more industrial workers have been affected. so where does this average come from ? in southern states those same top carpenters are at $12-15.00 an hour to begin with. So that makes no sense Absolutely right, if you can get $25 an hour these days you are doing pretty good. 10 to 14 an hour is what most jobs pay in this neck of the woods, excluding Nepotism,Government and Union Jobs, but they are not really jobs.......just Hand Jobs. |

Every job I see advertised is paying around 8 to 9 dollars an hour, and is part time with no benefits. I struggle on my pay, which is just slightly better than that, but I am thankful that I don't have to work for 8 dollars an hour. That is what is expected now, regardless of your training, that you get paid a miniscule amount of money and you like it. |

Simply because if people on welfare lived better than workers and there were more people on welfare than workers then it would take 100% of all workers money and then some to pay for the welfare programs. And since welfare less than 10% of the federal budget I call BS. |

Quoting: davvi 1. Has it occurred to you at all that if GW Bush hadn't bankrupted your country, Obama wouldn't have been in such a ripe position to turn it into a welfare state? Just curious as to why he wasn't 'the enemy' while he was spending your country into the poorhouse and actually creating Big Brother departments like the TSA and Homeland Security? Because I know for a fact if Obama had created something called 'Homeland Security' you guys would be frothing at the mouth with end of the world herpaderp. But as long as the guy talking has an elephant on his jacket you seem to be fine with it. 2. If the Republican party would stop pandering to the crazies, drop the religious charade, stop being anti-science and anti-women, they might actually be able to get a president elected. 3. All politics aside, Romney was very clearly a corporate shill, whose demonstrated method of 'leadership' was to maximize the profits for the upper class (that's him and his buddies) at the expense of the lower class (that's you). You need to be a SINGLE female WITH a child and a MEDICAL disability. A single man can't get half of any of those goodies. Agreed my sister in law falls under this category, she lies about how many kids she has living with her plus she gets the single men to live with her. She doesn't make as much as me but pretty close. It is very frustrating. I would love to tell the state or someone about her but I don't for 2 reason 1 no one would listen. 2 I would hate if something happened to them kids. She has 5 and only 2 of them live with her. It is very frustrating, to work my butt off and she doesn't but karma will get her when those kids turn 18 and then she is out on her ass, extremely fat ass I might add. How does she account for the extra kids? She would need social security numbers for them. I know a big scam is people getting ss numbers for other people's kids to use as dependents on their tax returns. If she gets caught she will be arrested for fraud and thrown in jail....a whole lot of people cheat the system while people that genuinely need the help who've worked most or all of their lives are given the run around. ..."The soul is dyed the color of its thoughts.
