Separation of church and state is for the express purpose of keeping the state out of the church, and not the other way around.

At the time the Constitution was created, most people were very religious and had no problem putting "In God We Trust" on their money, beginning sessions of Congress with prayer to the Almighty, and referring to God-given rights in the Constitution. THEY DID NOT HAVE A PROBLEM WITH RELIGION IN GOVERNMENT. They had a problem with government attempting to wield power over religion.

In God we trust wasn't added to money until 1956.

I've tried that. I have religious friends and I respect their beliefs. I just lose it when religious people step on the rights of others because of their religious beliefs. I will try to be more sensitive to their beliefs in the future. But freedom shouldn't be restricted by religion.

DOJ's argument is specious. Debating the worthiness or non-worthiness of gay parenting has nothing whatsoever to do with Prop 8.

The problem with Proposition 8:

The brief that the Justice Department presented to the Supreme Court discussed children only as items controlled by others, not as individual human beings who have God-given rights of their own. It simply assumes that a child has no inherent right to a mother or father and that the only right truly in question is whether two people of the same-sex have a right to marry one another and that that right encompasses a right to adopt and foster-raise children.
