Suddenly there are tons of these here in California! Do you have them in your state? I'm sure they're not cheap!

These have been around for a while. But, remember, they are just "traffic cams." sheep

Plenty of them in FL. I always wondered what their function was.

There is no way in hell anyone spends all that money for a simple traffic cam ever 1/4 mile. Also, has anyone notice they seem inaccessible?

Bullshit, why does a camera every quarter mile need to be powered so much?

They will work independent of the grid.

Why not augment the streetlights they cant afford to keep on???

Basically these are connect to the fiber optic grid and use solar panels to power the low voltage equipment to amplify the light source to send &/or receive signal and operate the camera's basic functions.

Common place in cities and outlying suburbs, which are controlled by city, county, state & federal agencies.

There's a fiber optic grid? LOL!

So why are they commonplace? Every quarter mile? Same consistent manufactured structure in different cities and counties and states?

Re: Have you seen these? Off-grid cameras/sensors every 1/4 mile on highways!
WHY WHY WHY

Who payed for them and who authorized it? For what purpose would it be justified to spend so much money on these?

Who maintains them? LOL these things look nearly maintenance free.

There are so many potential uses for these:

Supplement GPS data to tax you for the mileage you drive.

License plate reading software to alert cops of past due registration, stolen cars, movements of vehicles registered to persons on "lists".

Tracking speeds

Many many more, and none of them would be voted by the people to justify the cost.....

Think, observe...

I'm pretty sure these are used to monitor traffic. You know the real-time data you can see online to check for average speeds. I could be wrong. I've only seen them on the freeways here.

These cameras are still very expensive but ultimately they will be upgraded to use them I'm sure.

Re: Have you seen these? Off-grid cameras/sensors every 1/4 mile on highways!
I would pose the question why, too. I live outside of a town in nc pa that has less than 5,000 people. We only have one fast food restaurant in town, nearest walmart is half an hour away, nearest mall about an hour away. We had virtually no crime before the gas fracking and subsequent workers came to town, and although crime has risen, it is still extremely minimal compared to the rest of the nation. As an example, the last twenty years I have lived here, there has been less than 6 murders in our area, a few robberies, and one home invasion. For some reason our local government decided that we need cameras monitoring town around the clock. On a total of four traffic lights in town we have over 20 cameras monitoring all roads in or out of town. Here is my "why" question as well. Why do "they" need to be monitoring every tiny hamlet in America? I believe, that when every little one horse town in this country is monitoring its streets with cameras some sort of tyranny we have not yet known in this country is knocking on our door. Land of the free my ass!!!

U must look in netherlands, not normal too...

No money, all goes bad but lots of money rolling this netwerk out

If just a tiny sand road is connected to mainroad , there are cams to look what goes on and of the road

Next step will be gps in cars and then quit nice system then... To watch

Dont even think of google glasses in future, well if all connected ...
