Evolution has nothing to do with "progress".

It has everything to do with supplying populations with traits that adapt to ever-changing environments.

There is no "forward" or "reverse" in evolution.

Evolution is only a genetic response (by the surviving members of a population that supplies its progeny with the best fit traits) to the changing conditions of the environment.
