Re: BREAKING: UN resolution adopted! Casus belli for North Korea?
I asked this in another thread, but I'll ask it here too...My boyfriend asked, "How are they gonna get them over here? With a big-ass slingshot?" Seriously, they don't have the capability to fire a nuke at us, do they???
 Quoting: Kristina

It would take their best rocket to get anything to the lower 48, and even then they might only hit Washington State or Oregon. There are a small handful of strategic targets there, but the likliest US targets using their technology would be Alaskan oil pipelines, Hawaii military bases Japanese US bases or Philippines. And by "likliest" I mean within the highly unlikely possibility they would hit any US territory.
 Quoting: Gnosis 2020

not sure what you mean by "only." would hitting seattle be less important than hitting, say, memphis?

Fair point... "only" meant that their technology had limited reach, not that potential targets in those states are in any way less important.

NK wont do a thing but I dont see what else the UN can do in way of sanctions if NK does anymore testing of missile or nuke tech.
 Quoting: Robert The Bobert

Remove the sanctions, be friends with them and trade with them. Nuclear weapons are deterrent, not offensive weapons. In time the north and south will find a way to unify peacefully.

They'll probably agree to peace without considering US involvement or national security priorities.

Scratch that idea....

Nothing to be scared of. North Korea suffers from micro-penis syndrome which allows them the confidence to try and show their balls.

Fortunately, there is little to no thrust in front of the balls.

Re: BREAKING: UN resolution adopted! Casus belli for North Korea?
“I don’t expect the DPRK will attack ROK head on…perhaps we may see a naval skirmish in the West Sea,” Michael Madden, who runs the influential NK Leadership Watch blog, told NK NEWS. “The Korean People’s Army is long overdue for a major live fire exercise in which they utilize their various service branches and gather the central leadership to bear witness to the fireworks,” he added.

Christopher Green, of North Korean-watching website the Daily NK warned that South Korea’s new administration could particularly be at risk, as it continues a difficult period of transition:

“The North might conclude that South Korea’s will to retaliate has been diminished by the change of administration in Seoul, and that this conclusion might push them into something that actually crosses a red line,” said Green, who is based in the UK.

Even if you aren't doing anything, if someone shoves you, pushes you, shoves you, pushes you, aren't you going to eventually fight back? It's just like what FDR did to Japan, where they had no choice but to attack. Just like George HW Bushit did to Saddam to get him to attack Kuwait, so the US would have a reason to take over another strategic area.

lolz,
you need to be a reading more about the seattle area, before you can understand that up the strait from the big city,
is the biggest nuke sub base anywhere on the planet,
oh ya and right across the water is the biggest fleet in world, more aircraft carriers then anywhere.

so really be fore you poo poo the seattle area you should spend some time learning about where the real military is at in out country.

Dude read what I actually wrote!!! I'm acknowledging the strategic importance of the area. I'm personally familiar with the region.

One last time ... The word "only" was used in the context "only as far as", NOT "only insignificant places such as".

What is it with people who always assume the worst meaning, even after context is explained?!

Maybe a few if they REALLY tried hard to smuggle it in. Drugs make it in, I'm sure a handful of suitcase nukes could.

But I doubt they could lob those megaton monsters on ICBM's. And if they could, the US has a host of defense systems.

So.....NK couldn't strike SK ships with their surface vessels in 1999, or torpedo one of SK's destroyers in 2010, or open fire on SK's island with artillery & kill all those people like they did...?

I don't follow what you're trying to say..
