North Korea will invade the south within a weeks time
Why do I say that?
1.Because they now know China itself is working against them (todays vote in the UN with China agreeing to impose sanctions against the DPRK - a first!)
2.In North Korea's internal dialogue, that occurs at the highest political level, they have always seen themselves as being the final arbiters of their country's re-unification...its the thing they are most obsessed with.
3. Since this past weekend all their military has been going into a progressively 'winding up' state of a huge military exercise, trains in the capital have been camouflaged, artillery units on the border are showing high activity.
4. The new administration in South Korea is in flux, a head of the defence forces hasn't been appointed yet - so an opportunity by the North to take advantage of that situation.
5. Semi-submersible's showing high activity in both seas near the border (they'll deliver their A-Bombs - stealthy - rockets are a ruse)
6. The tunnels under the DMZ were built for a reason.
7. And now this...the commander of the special forces that did the attack on the Cheonan corvette has been rehabilitated by the regime:

It's all very simple.

China gets all of oriental Asia.

The USA gets all of the Americas

Russia get Europe.

The middle east turns into a glass parking lot.

"IF" they are going to invade soon ... they will WAIT until Obama is in Israel and AWAY from being able to consult in person with the military top brass and his other advisors.

Sure the President is always in communication ... but being away from Washington, and the Pentagon and CIA heads being brand new and still not up to speed wrt their jobs, could make for some muddled decision making if it needs to be made quickly.

There are hardly any USN carriers at sea now....to respond.
What will China do if the North invade the South?
American forces will be involved right from the get-go, and there may be very overt support by the Chinese military for their old war buddies in North Korea....against the ol' enemy the USA.
It will all become unpredictable!
Which is probably what north Korea is banking on.

For the North Korean leadership, this idea of them being the primary force to instigate the re-unification of their country - that has always been an abiding piece of zealoutry that drives them forward....that gives them their impetus and being.
They may now see no other alternative but to follow that habit mind plan.

Re: North Korea will invade the south within a weeks time
With China now agreeing to impose sanctions on North Korea, what real option does North Korea have?

Lets be realistic here.

With out China, North Korea is a completely isolated territory with an estimated GDP of 40 billion dollars.

The North Korean Army, is estimated to be around 12-13million people available for military service.

Assuming that it takes 10 dollars to feed 1 person for 1 day,

$10x13,000,000people= $130,000,000 a day.

In just thirty days it would cost 3,900,000,000 to feed the north Korean Army at 10 dollars per person for a full day.

To mention the costs of, energy, transportation, bullets, clothing and maintenance, would just be beating an already dead horse.

South Korea is a totally different story.

A global trading Territory with companies such as, SK Hynix, Samsung, Hyundai, KIA motors and POSCO. All of which make South Korea a strong trading partner with the United States and happens to make South Korea, a huge asset to the United States economy. With that being said, there is NO WAY the United States would sit by and watch the World's fourth largest steel production company, the world's second largest micro-chip production company, and Samsung, be destroyed by a country that can barely sustain it self to begin with.

I wounder, how is it possible for a nation like North Korea to not realize the seriousness of their situation? Why on earth would they mock countries like the United States by releasing videos that portray the destruction of America? That makes ZERO sense to me..

What does make sense to me..

The United States is propagating a war with a country that is viewed by most of the world as an incredibly brutal, totalitarian regime. These videos that North Korea has supposedly released, appear to me, to be constructed to garner public support for such an occupation. The advantages that would come from the United States occupation of the DPRK would be so tremendous, that the new found influence and military strategy that comes from it, would simply change the world.

Well, Germany's situation was worse than current NK's before Hitler come to power, look what happened, they almost taken entire Europe. NK has some advantages, because they are a closed country nobody knows any of their secrets, they may well have been preparing for something massive for decades.

well, no. germany in 1932 was in a financial mess, but was a major industrial power and scientific hub. its economy was hurt by the depression, but less than many others (including that of the us) and, unlike north korea today, nobody was starving.

Without repeating the OP's points (they are correct) ... ... Actually, this would be the BEST time to do something.

They have trained and know that once the ice melts an offensive would not be successful. We have major military assets in port and our troop strength lessened over the years. Their general population is starving except for the military. They have substantial special operating forces. They have substatial sleeper cells in the south.

The South Koreans will not invade the North. They are distinct "tribal" groups and entirely different cultures. The South learned from West Germany taking back East Germany and do not want to repeat because the drain on the South's economy would be bad if implemented.

More sanctions will completely and finally decimate the Norths economy so bad they have no other choice but to try and cut a piece of the pie from the South Koreans.

The North views the South as weak now that they have adopted a soft life style and many South Korean people do not want a war so would make it an unpopular war.

End result - the North has no other choice or in other words views themselves as backed up against a wall.
Where spirit, logic, intuition, and truth intermingle.
