I have a NAS (network storage) for the big stuff.



And as someone mentioned, just replacing the primary drive with a small and cheap SSD will make all the difference in the world.

As for RAID... I am not using any form of RAID. I did not see any advantage to this configuration and the extra wear on both drives is limiting.

Also, the "One Button Recovery" wouldn't work in a RAID configuration. I keep the recovery partition on the 2nd "less used" drive.
