There's no harm in following the path of the writers whom researched fire the movie. This movie was in the works for a very long time, and despite my complaints with it, it remains my favorite peice of widely accessible cinema regarding something that may have a stake in reality.
Although, whether it does or not, shouldn't matter. Why discourage someone from looking more into it? Keep up the research, I find it interesting nonetheless.

Another point to look into, is the fact that while adapting H.P Lovecraft's at the mountains of madness, Del Toro eventually scrapped the film because Scott had touched on the very same message that he was planning on touching. Never would Fox say no to a huge project like this, that aside from the big message, was nothing like Prometheus..
It is in my opinion, that both of these directors were planning on sharing with us the same conclusion, while both using different mediums.
Either way, I recently read that Madness will be picked up again, due to its need to be made despite its similarities to Prometheus.
Will the same messages be reinforced?
Are there rogue elements in Hollywood, who refuse to cut certain script choices, and are using cinema to show us, what we feel is truth.
If 'At the Mountains' deviates from the story, we will know that they're using these films for another purpose.
