Let me clarify: I picked just about the least popular things to show that usually "doing your own thing" is just following the crowd.

Real life example: I know a student who dresses very respectably by Amish standards. He is not Amish. He does not expose his crotch in the sag and drag manner so popular in schools.
He wears a belt, and tucks his shirt in.
The other students tease him all the time.

Even teachers say he is a fool.

Well I say, he IS being himself.

Being yourself only gets you brownie points if you are doing what others find cool.
If you really march to your own drummer (not Mattel's) you are a freak.

Hope this clarifies my meaning, sorry if it sounded unclear.

I've been getting a little loud lately about people being themselves because over the past years I've noticed everyone is so hateful to anyone who doesn't fit into a little box. It's been totally weird because it used to be a little cool to be different but always came with a bit of a price for not following the crowd but now it's downright scary the way some people act towards people that don't go along.

Just go to an actual High School.

Honestly, I was think unless you have something to worry about and you and your kids are truly influenced, you are over reacting.

My daughter doesn't watch mainstream media. She is aware of Monster High and feels like it is a glorified Barbie. Sbe is eight and likes the Frankenstein doll. She doesn't look at it any differently then Barbie, other then their joints move better and interesting tattoos.

It is how you react and allow your child to react and think that this doll is any different. You are the one who allows what ideas flow into your childs thoughts. If you react this way, then your child is a sheep that follows.

Actually, yeah, most of it is. You just can't comprehend it.

I'm all for it if it creates a generation of goths and punks.

The pictures the VC embedded on his/her website are the creepiest thing I've seen in a loong time. The dolls are utterly "stylized" voodoo dolls sold in boxes that imitate coffins. And their themes have plenty of blatant satanic Illuminati symbolism.

I'm running out or words to depict the evil that emanates from that dolls and their accessories.

I agree and made a mistake as categorizing this with all the things I had mentioned above. It is actually a cool cartoon.

The biggest problem I see with this show and other's like it it is when there is a big obsession over it among girls. When it becomes obsessive, it gets carried out to other girls. Imagine a group of 3 or 4 young girls. One girl gets a big obsession with it and she is the more vocal and dominant member of the group. She can sway the other girls to play along. Maybe thats all she wants to play with. The other girls will follow along because they want to play with her. Eventually the content of the show will subconsciously effect them. It becomes problematic because it sways them to stereotype themselves at an early age - that they must fit into a niche in order to have consistent companions. The show itself is a bit dark for that age group.

I will not allow my kids to have brat dolls, let alone these monster high dolls. Kids associate to what they are exposed to, their brains are like sponges. They can be so easily influenced. Monster High teaches morals? More like teaches that rebellion is cool. I'd prefer if they grew long hair and loved Pink Floyd (they do). Seriously, if I allow my kids to watch some of the senseless stuff that's aired they would be impossible to live with. On the other hand, when they watch certain nature shows and specials, they are more compassionate and reasonable, rational little people. Mostly they listen to music when playing with their toys and all three kids very happily play two different musical instruments of their choice. There isn't much on the tube they're exposed to, unless it's some family type show from twenty years ago or more. Every show you turn to has sexual talk that children are not mature enough to handle, usually aired early in the evening. And violent shows and movies aired non-stop. Yes, there is an agenda, and many are waking up to this cold, hard fact. Especially parents of younger children and teens. I went through a little bit of the goth stage as a teenager. A lot different then a goth 8 year old, ya think? Desensitize and demoralize, with an undertone of fear, that's the name of the 'programmers' 'programming' game. The younger the programming, the better the programming. Frigging unreal.
