To bad someone doesn't play along and give them access to a cpu that is just loaded with viruses and malware to infect the hell out of the scammers cpu. That would be funny.

I was hoping to get contacted by one of those Nigerian scammers who needs access to my banking information. I wanted to get their hopes up by informing them that I just stumbled upon an inheritance and then proceed to furnish them made-up account numbers and then play stupid when they request clarification about why the numbers are not working.

Re: Beware of This Computer Scam! You Will Have Personal Information Stolen!
I got a call from

(456)-985-3896

I dont know where these people are located... they sound like they hail from India... but have more of a "bite" to their accent... their english is decent... anyways...

They called from "Windows Operating System" (that was their claim, I instantly knew this was a scam...)

He tells me I have a virus on my computer. They can tell this from my internet usage...

I proceeded to tell him in the best Dr.Acula accent I can muster:

"All my computers were monitored closely and they are 100% virus free."

He then asks me to turn my computer on and give him access to it and he will show me the viruses I dont know about...

I then told him I work in IT and know how to secure my systems... (I used to, not anymore, he didnt know that)

he then begins this panic like mumbling:
"oh sir, yes sir, uhhhhh, yes I... oh... As you wish sir."

I was nice and said

"Thank you for your scam attempt, may you rot in Hell" and I hung up...

Well I have two phone lines... a few minutes later I get a call on the 2nd phone from the same people...

Its "Mike" from 'Windows Operating System, a free service offered for users of windows' jerkit

Once more in my best Dr.Acula accent I told "Mike" that I just received a call from them... and I was on to their lil scam...

He was like... "uhhh no this is no scam... it is a free service, blah blah"

I told them i didnt want them to have access to my computer to install malware that will mine my information...

Mike says "No, no, no no scam"

Acula says "Yes, yes, yes yes credit card stealing scammers... I will tell everyone I know about your little scam, Im onto you boy"

He told me "Good Luck with that" and hung up...

Well Mike... FUCK YOU, I'm a man of my word...

GLP if you get a call from that number or any asshole who wants control of your computer... DO NOT let those bastards have access to your computer!

alright a bit of information about the area code (456)

So yes it is a foreign scam outfit...

I googled the number and found some comments that people left on another site that confirms this is a scam...

So once again "Mike" you scamming bastard...

Thanks for the heads up, OP. If you haven't already, I would suggest submitting a complaint report to the FTC as well.
They are currently in the process of investigating various fraud groups at moment.

This kind of thing?

I had one a year ago, I kept them on the phone for over an hour by playing dumb, I even got them to call back the next day and kept them on for another hour. The upshot was to get you to buy support, using credit card of course. I took it to the point where you enter your credit card details and then said to them, "I spoke to microsoft yesterday and they said they don't use third party support nor would microsoft call you for this reason." The last I heard was the girl on the other end of the phone say, "OH SHIT!" and the line went dead. Few stoned hours well spent.

There's many like this on you tube.

:-)

One of the more 'meaner' things I have done... it was early in my career in IT and I was working on-site at a Psychiatrist office on a weekend when they were closed... installing hardware and software in their billing office.

The phone in the billing area kept ringing... it would stop, then start up again... over and over. This went on for hours. I finally decided to answer it, but I did not say 'billing office' or anything like that.. I just said 'hello'.

The guy on the other end, clearly disturbed patient... struggled to say 'is this the b'b'bill... billing off'office.'

I replied, 'what are you, crazy?' and hung-up.

He didn't call back.

Oh for sure this is a scam company. Unfortunately there are a heck of alot of them. I used to work for HP technical support for printers and we would get calls about these companies all the time. The one i know of off the top of my head is iYOGI. They would charge the customer $150 just to tell them there was a problem with their printer and to call us. They would ask for remote access to their customer and not do anything. Multiple times I had people ask me how to make sure these people were not still connected to their PC.

I have also heard of multiple horror stories from customer who have actually fallen victim to the scam the OP is referring to. They take your money and personal info, gain access to your computer. They probably give you viruses instead of cleaning them. This is 100% a scam. What I want to know is how in the blue hell do they get your number to begin with. The audacity of some of these companies astounds me. They must think that all westerners are completely retarded.

OP I'm glad that you had the knowhow and expertise to spot this SCAM and stop it. The problem is that a good majority of people don't know alot about their computer and would fall for a scam like this. Alot of older people get afraid when they are told they have a virus on their PC's.

That is nuts! Happens all the time. Yeah just think about it. They could have 500 photos and it's one person answering them all.

I love you long time! lol

I would never agree to this no matter what - BUT - I might have paused and thought for a minute as I recently got a laptop and software and had had lots of viruses on another system...so with all that going on, I might have thought it was somebody I already contacted.

Oh you know what would be really fun?
Act like an idiot and make them walk you through how to turn on the computer. That could kill half an hour.

Re: Beware of This Computer Scam! You Will Have Personal Information Stolen!

Alot of older people get afraid when they are told they have a virus on their PC's.

they prolly tried every phone with a 606 area code (my area)

just set an area code and a suffix and have a computer try every possibility/combination of numbers.

speaking of older folks...
i've noticed a lot of scammers dial my numbers...
my father is 65+ and one phone is in his name...
so i bet they were trying to get him... because of his age range.

fuckers.

but had they got ahold of him...

it would have been hilarious... and rather educational to them... lol
he's told telemarketers in the past how to "ring a chickens neck and make home made dumplings" or how to make a snare to catch rabbits... or whatever "how to" that pops in his mind at the time. lol

I told those people to fuck off at least 4 times last year. I think I might try the old you have just called a crime scene scam on them next time and ask them how they know the victim and where were they between the hours of 9 PM AND 3 AM the night before last because they may need to come in for questioning!
