SewDucky User ID: 23684754 United States 03/11/2013 07:47 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I got it today, too. I asked my husband what a computer was. He told me it was the thing that propped the table to make it even. Called back. Told them I had an Apple IIe, so I didn't know the OS. The third call, I handed them to the baby. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 4439834 United States 03/11/2013 07:50 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Oh you know what would be really fun? Quoting: The Loophole Act like an idiot and make them walk you through how to turn on the computer. That could kill half an hour. if i had the time that would have been hilarious! "when i hit the power button it doesnt do anything unless i set the timer" let em know after a good while... its the computer that reheats your food... aka microwave lol Then say 'may I put you on hold?" Punch a button and holler "do you have a geographical on this damned scammer yet? They're going in with guns, this time right? I want to hear that. I'll keep him talking". Punch the same button "Ok mike. Where were we?" |

Matter of fact I had computer crash recently and rebuilt my machine from a mix mash of parts... running on a frankenputer :) I just got it up and running late last night. fresh install of the OS and everything... and I got hughesnet satellite and it has a bandwidth cap... and a bandwidth usage meter... i watch it like a hawk... to make sure i dont run out of bandwidth... I even run an additional program that tells me where/what all incoming and outgoing connections are... and it matches up with hughesnet's usage meter. Even if they do somehow manage to install something on my systems... any of them... i'd see it within 5 minutes muhwahaha :) once again thanks for taking the time to type all that out... as soon as my green recharges... i'll hit ya with some karma for the effort! :) _______________________ |

Dr. Acula (OP) Senior Forum Moderator User ID: 286081 United States 03/11/2013 08:13 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | To bad someone doesn't play along and give them access to a cpu that is just loaded with viruses and malware to infect the hell out of the scammers cpu. That would be funny. Quoting: Jknoph I was hoping to get contacted by one of those Nigerian scammers who needs access to my banking information. I wanted to get their hopes up by informing them that I just stumbled upon an inheritance and then proceed to furnish them made-up account numbers and then play stupid when they request clarification about why the numbers are not working. Years ago, my daughter sent me a website called "Busted up Cowgirl." She kept the scammers going by pretending she was interested. She would go on for days and weeks. It was hilarious. Black print is the Nigerian scammer...green print is kristen, the "Busted Up Cowgirl." This is something of hers....lol: [link to www.eagle-wing.net] that was a good read! _______________________ |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 21495402 Canada 03/11/2013 08:27 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Oh for sure this is a scam company. Unfortunately there are a heck of alot of them. I used to work for HP technical support for printers and we would get calls about these companies all the time. The one i know of off the top of my head is iYOGI. They would charge the customer $150 just to tell them there was a problem with their printer and to call us. They would ask for remote access to their customer and not do anything. Multiple times I had people ask me how to make sure these people were not still connected to their PC. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 21495402 I have also heard of multiple horror stories from customer who have actually fallen victim to the scam the OP is referring to. They take your money and personal info, gain access to your computer. They probably give you viruses instead of cleaning them. This is 100% a scam. What I want to know is how in the blue hell do they get your number to begin with. The audacity of some of these companies astounds me. They must think that all westerners are completely retarded. OP I'm glad that you had the knowhow and expertise to spot this SCAM and stop it. The problem is that a good majority of people don't know alot about their computer and would fall for a scam like this. Alot of older people get afraid when they are told they have a virus on their PC's. they prolly tried every phone with a 606 area code (my area) just set an area code and a suffix and have a computer try every possibility/combination of numbers. speaking of older folks... i've noticed a lot of scammers dial my numbers... my father is 65+ and one phone is in his name... so i bet they were trying to get him... because of his age range. fuckers. but had they got ahold of him... it would have been hilarious... and rather educational to them... lol he's told telemarketers in the past how to "ring a chickens neck and make home made dumplings" or how to make a snare to catch rabbits... or whatever "how to" that pops in his mind at the time. lol That's awesome. Unfortunately not enough elderly know to do that to make a difference. At least when it comes to computers anyways. I find it funny how they announce they are with "Windows Operating System" when windows operating system isn't a company. I would have SOOOOO much fun with them if they called me. It would be funny to tell them you don't even have a computer. Then see what they say. Or lead them on. Tell them that you are following their directions and don't see what they are telling them to do. Ask them why your windows need an operating system. Ask them what operating system a window needs. Tell them that they are just the standard windows that you normally would get. I would get a callback number too. I'd call them relentlessly everyday and tell them that I'm with microsoft's legal team and wish to discuss pending litigation as long as its not a long distance number. lol OOOOO the fun I would have HEHEHE |

Quoting: The Loophole I seriously suck at how to kill things for food. How to raise things for food I've got down, but then they look at me with their trusting eyes and... well my best advice... and i've done it a bunch... without the food procured I would have starved... you cant look at it as killing... its a gift... after you have ended its life cycle thank the animal for gift of nourishment. Don't 'kill' it with anger... do so with a kind heart... it matters... it may sound silly... but it matters. when you go to end its cycle... and their trusting eyes is looking at you... think of it as them offering their gift of life to sustain you. they will become apart of you :) Never kill for sport... unless you eat it and make use of it... Never never kill to just let it way waste. Last Edited by Dr. Acula on 03/11/2013 10:09 PM _______________________ |

Since I know I had the 'Broadcast' part, several hackers were interested in the fact that I had 4GB Ram on an XP pro (which can only use 3GB for Windows OS and I have a video accelerator with its own 1GB Ram (or VRAM, who knows?) So I had repeated visits. What I had to do was to remove the Remote Assistance .exe and there are two services in msconfig (not the req'd ones) I had to shut off. This was in addition to clicking off Remote Assistance and Remote Desktop toggles in the Start Menu. I think I had a total of 7 or 8 RAT infections since last July. Glad to see you're doing well keeping those miscreants out. Last Edited by The Deplorable RockHall on 03/11/2013 10:12 PM "I think, therefore I am..."
