because when the earth flooded way back thousands of years ago and destroyed all the cool fruit trees and vegetation that would just fall off on the ground for us to pick up and eat, people got all scared and started eating each other and animals out of fear of survival. We are still stuck in the same situation: people in fearful survival mode and look at vegetarians as attacking their survival and hence their life and pursuit of happiness.
