Someone give me some feedback on this idea. I understand that prophecies of any sort are held to a degree of ambiguity but are still interesting nonetheless. I would first like to examine what 'Peter the Roman' is being referred to. If St. Malachy was on to something here maybe uncovering some deeper symbolism is required.

1) Peter was not Roman. He was born in Bethsaida, Gaulanitis, Syria around 1 BC. although the region was occupied by Rome.

2) Was born Simeon but given the name peter.

3) died in Rome around AD 67

The disciple Peter was crucified by the Romans upside down because he felt unworthy to die as Christ did. At the end of the book of John , Jesus asks Peter several times if he loves him and asks peter to 'feed my sheep' John 21 vs 18-19 says "Very truely i tell you, when you were younger you dressed yourself and went where you wanted; but when you are old you will stretch out your hands and someone else will dress you and lead you where you do not want to go. 19 Jesus said this to indicate the kind of death by which Peter would glorify God. Then he said to him ' follow me!'"

The saint malachy prophecy of the popes says that, "Peter the Roman, who will pasture his sheep in many tribulations, and when these things are finished, the city of seven hills [i.e. Rome] will be destroyed, and the dreadful judge will judge his people. The End"

Therefore, I wonder if 'Peter the Roman' will in many ways act like Peter, but will be fully 'romanized' in the ways of the catholic church and typify the attributes of Peter. I find it interesting too that new pope is born in argentina ( the new world) and is now head of the global catholic church.

First of all As we can agree the malachy prophecy of popes does not reveal the popes name or identity but rather some form of descriptive narration, For example pope john paul II was known as 'From the labour of the sun / Of the eclipse of the sun." Pope Benedict XVI "the glory of the olives"

Peter holds a monumental significance in the catholic church. MT 16:18 "And I tell you that you are Peter,[a] and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it."

This verse is at the core of the catholic church by placing Peter as the first pope. The last pope being a 'type of peter' would make the most sense "Peter the Roman" and as i established. This seems to be a bit of a oxymoron. Possibly indicating that the original church has been hijacked or transformed from its original identity ie. "romanized'
