Louisiana SINKHOLE QUAKES! Around 100 micro quakes reported’ - UPDATED
[link to enenews.com]

This situation is simply not getting any better.

Dr. Horton has reported a “spasmodic burst” which occurred at 1:34 this morning with 90+ micro earthquakes happening overnight. In addition, there were several observable long periods (VLP) events recorded on seismic monitor LA12. Dr. Horton and Dr. Pettit are working to locate the events currently.

We will post updates as information becomes available.

Here's a confusing article to try and skim though -

[link to theadvocate.com]

Boudreaux said the micro-earthquakes are continuing about every 15 minutes.

He said they are believed to be near the failed cavern that is known as Oxy Geismar No. 3, and not near a second Texas Brine cavern for which structural concerns have also been raised recently.

An earlier round of tremors in late February stopped work directly on the nearly 9-acre surface of the briny, lake-like sinkhole. That prohibition has remained in place, though work had continued around the sinkhole until Wednesday, Boudreaux said.

University of Memphis earthquake researcher Steve Horton reported that the “spasmodic burst” of more than 90 micro earthquakes happened about 1:34 a.m. Wednesday, parish officials reported in the blog post.

The micro quakes have also been called sharp tremors. These kinds of tremors built up last summer before the sinkhole appeared in early August

Since then, they have re-emerged periodically and been linked to rock movement in a zone of collapsed earth along side the section of the Napoleonville Dome where the Texas Brine cavern failed.

Scientists think the cavern was mined too closely to the outer face of the salt dome and had a sidewall failure more than 5,000 feet deep, allowing millions of cubic yards of rock into the cavern.

Scientists think rock is gradually filling the remaining space in the 20 million barrel underground cavern, which, at roughly 2,250 feet long, is the length of the world’s tallest buildings.

Horton also reported Wednesday the detection of different kinds of tremors, known as a very long period events, which have been associated with gas or fluid movement through the collapse zone, parish officials said.

OP, thanks for the update.

Looks like some of our amazing GLPer's are finally going to be getting some respect given that this has been theorized (Bending Light in particular) months ago.

It's nice to see some of the details coming to the surface. While I'm no geologist, it doesn't take a one to see just how screwed up this all really is.

Peace.

Huge Earthquake In Indian Ocean Set Off Series Of Quakes
Researchers theorize that the 8.6 quake triggered a cascade of micro-quakes on certain faults that led to larger quakes.

On April 11, a massive magnitude 8.6 earthquake shook the floor of the Indian Ocean off Sumatra. It wasn't just unusual because of its size — the 10th largest quake in the last century — it also set off a series of quakes around the world for up to six days afterward, according to a study published on Sept. 26 in the journal Nature.

"Until now, we seismologists have always said, 'Don't worry about distant earthquakes triggering local quakes,'" said Roland Burgmann, an earth and planetary scientist at UC Berkeley, in a statement. "This study now says that, while it is very rare — it may only happen every few decades — it is a real possibility if the right kind of earthquake happens."

The study found that some quakes were triggered within a few hours, while in other places the seismic waves from the Sumatran quake primed temblors to happen for up to six days later.

The findings should remind those living in seismically active areas that the risk from a large earthquake could persist, even on the opposite side of the globe, for more than a few hours, the study scientists said.

Another study also published today suggests that the quake marks the birth of a new tectonic plate beneath the Indian Ocean.

The temblor was caused by plates slipping past each other, in what's called a strike-slip earthquake. (California's San Andrea fault is perhaps the most famous example of a strike-slip fault.)

"This was one of the weirdest earthquakes we have ever seen," Burgmann said in the statement. "It was like the 1906 San Francisco earthquake, a strike-slip event, but it was huge — 15 times more energetic."

The Sumatran earthquake led to a 7.0 quake in Baja California and quakes in Indonesia and Japan, but none of these caused much damage. Worldwide, the seismologists found five times the expected number of quakes during the six days following April 11.

One possible mechanism for the delayed action is that the East Indian Ocean quake triggered a cascade of undetectable micro-quakes on certain faults that led to larger ruptures later on, according to a UC Berkeley release on the study.

Researchers looked at other recent large earthquakes and found that there was only a small increase in the number of earthquakes immediately afterward. That could be due to the unique nature of the Sumatran quake, which generated waves that traveled just under the Earth's surface and were energetic enough to affect distant fault zones.

I been following this sinkhole since this thread

Thread: Don't make ASSUMPTIONS; try to Understand.

Now the dawg, might be real or fake but he did get my attention and made me read more into this story. Just over the months it seems like something is being covered up.

I thought something was going to of happen months ago. Hopefully nothing does happen. It is good to see this matter getting more attention and maybe the real story will come out.

Apparently the fire is only 100km from the sinkhole, and it may be connected underground (methane "hydrate I think") its called "flaming ice" and there are MILLIONS of gallons of the stuff frozen right under it, and slowly evaporating, and bubbling to the surface, the highly explosive gas... can someone say lighting strike
