I'm not sure homosexuality was so rampant before they forced celibacy. I had a friend who was a priest and we spoke about it just as the issues were coming to common knowledge in the 2000's.

He said that because Catholicism is very anti-homosexuality, good men who were homosexual but wanted to be "right with God" in the eyes of their Church would go into priesthood (since priests can't have sex anyway).

And since "no man is perfect" in the church's ideology... it would lead to sinful behavior...

Good question. I don't know. I don't think so but I'm not certain. I believe that they recite something about Jesus calling to his apostles away from their lives and that is what priesthood is...

We know that at least some of the apostles were married.

We know that Jesus was noble, pure,virtuous, undefiled, and would never defile anyone else. He was sinless, and anyone who insinuates otherwise is a blasphemer. Your knee will bow and your tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is sinless and Lord---better do it now...later may be too late.

My understanding of it is that they did marry long ago but separation and divorce made the Pope pull the trigger. See the church gets all assets when a priest dies. If there was a wife well she would have a say about the distribution of the late priests estate. Some priests come form wealthy families and the church wants that wealth all to themselves.
