Ever woken up, but couldn't move a muscle? You're not alone. It's called sleep paralysis and it can be really scary (video)

I used to have bad problems with sleep paralysis, I even woke up and heard growling and realized I was doing it. Obviously I was trying to wake myself up.

Oddly enough, since I've had my cats, I rarely have problems with sleep paralysis. Even more odd, is my male cat will sleep at the foot of the bed where he can watch the door to the bedroom. I don't know if he's standing guard but I appreciate it.

Yes, and I've done it for several years. I wrote an article about it because I suffer/enjoy just about every benign sleep phenomena known to man. Sometimes, I even accidentally astrally project myself. It's been part of my family since I was a kid, and that's the story of how my great grandmother met her son in-law for the first time(through astral projection). They did not have the same term for it, it was more of a spiritual experience to them. My mother did this first when she was pregnant with me. She watched her body go outside itself into the sky above. When I was born, my heart wasn't beating..and I've always wondered if that didn't have something to do with it.

Oh edited to add, that some say sleep paralysis is the started point to astrally projecting. That's why I started talking about it.

Laci takes a look at what happens when this disconnect occurs between your brain and body here [link to news.discovery.com]
 Quoting: smilesun

what people consider sleep paralysis is actually a state of trance, where the body and mind resign into themselves to experience themselves solely. The body rests and heals, and repairs itself outside of the confines of the mind.

This is easily proven by the fact that you don't have to think of a cut healing in order for it to do so. It is its own entity. The body as an entity allows the mind to embody it. 2 become 1.

During sleep, the body has an opportunity to be its own being again.. and that is why sleeping feels so divine and euphoric to us. It is a state of a singular body.. the body provides us with many other pleasures of course... they can be solely for the body or solely for the mind.. we choose when to converge... people say that sex is better when you're in love.. it is. 2 become 1. Same principle again.

When you are in sleep paralysis, you are hardly paralyzed. Please do not believe the lies this world is feeding you. The world is full of hysteria, paranoid delusions and false ideas. These are our doctors and governors.. do not listen to them. Listen to yourself within.. and go on a journey with your mind.. explore countless realms and possibilities when the mind gets to be with itself during trance.

So, a majority of the cases here have also experienced the inability to breathe during sleep paralysis and many sense it as an attack! This is the closest thing to a 'vampiric' encounter I can conceive... as breath is part of one's life force...

I had a really weird dream last night. I dreamt that I woke up with a paralyzing numbing tingling feeling in my entire body, but then realized my room was very bright and there was a humming noise above my house. My thought was that a space ship was above my house and I was either paralyzed by the energy generated by the space ship or I was being bombarded by a ray of some sort. I struggled to fight the paralyzing numbing tingling feeling and managed to get out of bed and made it to the front door. I then woke up, but still had that paralyzing numbing tingling feeling in my entire body for several minutes. I then just rolled over and went back to sleep. It was really weird.

Had it a few times thou the only thing i saw and felt were grey moving chains that looked alive. I'm glad i don't see old hag or demons during my paralysis. first happened when i was 12 I guess , now I'm 18. During these 6 years i had about 20 of them . Probably because I can't fall asleep without music , I don't like to wait in bed in total silence , it freaks me out , all those floor cracking sounds and mistery surounding silence. Music messes up my deep sleep i guess and i get the paralysis. I should also mention that i always hear static noise during my paralysis time.

Another thing is that i started having paralysis after one night i suddenly woke up and a light started flashing through my room windows(Like 10 lighting bolts during 1 second, kinda pulsating). I don't like talking about alien abductions but I think that long term music listening till falling asleep kind of made something click in my brain that night and i started having the paralysis. Of course it happens to everyone but something might make the paralysis more frequent i think.

Used to have this happen all the time while sleeping with my (now ex) wife.

Like everyone else I would wake and be completely paralyzed. A number of times there was a dark shadow figure (felt demonic) in the corner of the room and I would hear VERY loud gregorian type chanting that was very dark and foreboding.

Doesn't happen to me anymore. Creepy as hell and always scared the shit out of me!

I firmly believe my ex had something to do with it.

Count me in, I've had maybe 10 times in my adulthood. Last time it seemed to last for a long time, maybe 5 minutes? But that could just be mind disassociated from real time, maybe lag or something from a dream state.

Weird stuff.

Its just mean you are unclean, unholy to God.

So you become fair game to the adversary's minions.

The uncleanlyness, unholyness nature can be physical (stuff that comes out of the body on your sleep place), or spiritual.

Or maybe you are in a defiled place, check for trojan horses from the adversary that you or someone placed there. The reason of the definelement can be many things.

Call a Jesuit to check your place out.

A holy man in an unholy ground generates spiritual warfare.

Unholy man, in slumber and blindness (fluoridate sodium on your toothpaste, water) will not see or hear anything, but will suffer the effects regardless (lack of energy, tiredness, mainly)

if your flesh is corrupt, you dont have much say on what interacts with your flesh and spirit.

if your flesh is not corrupt, then you have to allow it to happen, expressly or tacitly.

Like "medidate" to "open your third eye" and become "one" with the "universe". Its equivalent to allowance.
Or just bring an idol somewhere in your bedroom/house, can be something in your clothes, shoes, technology, or even on the air.

This happens since ever, the interpretation thereof got changed purposelly by TPTB.

Thus creation of "Psychology".

The ability to sense it, got removed by all sorts of "dopes" added to your daily water and food.

In a natural state you should be able to know with 100% of certain whether you are on the good side or bad side, holy or unholy, clean or unclean.

But people these days cant sense anything, and that wich they can sense, they cant interpret. So you get bullshit like "sleep paralysis" and all sorts of psychological theories written by authorities telling you are perfectly fine, just need more medication to "relax".

Sleep paralysis is awesome, makes it easy to go into a dream lucid or have astral projection experiences. Can be scary as hell the first time it happens though and the more you try to move, the longer you are paralyzed.

ive had SP since being born. (i remember being`born and SP began shortly after and continued to this day, im 42.

it always comes as i fall asleep, never upon waking.
total dread, terror.

it exhausts me and if im lucky enough to be able to move a toe when i sense it ocming on, i can wake up.

usually this is a battle of all battles for me and most of the time i have to give up and let go.i just dont have the energy required to fight it.

i dont know what happens, i just fall into a black hole.
it sucks me in.

i sleep with the tv on, so there is never total darkness.
its not from being TOO tired ive found, it comes and goes with no rhyme or reason.

doesnt anyone else get it BEFORE they fall asleep?
or is it just me?

Mine. I *was* out of my body, down the stairs in a rainbow of colors, zooming along. When I realized I did not want to experience the spirit world, not quite feeling ready; I came back.

My only experience with 'sleep paralysis' occured before I had fallen asleep. I just recently learned that it could occur before sleep and reading that helped me identify an experience that I had but had not connected the dots about yet.

Do you suffer from sleep apnea or sleep on your back by any chance? If so, have you ever tried sleeping on your stomach?

I have never been able to feel comfortable sleeping on my back and subsequently, I have only had one instance of 'sleep paralysis' that I can recall in my life. I think that is no coincidence and is definitely tied to the position that I sleep in...

Try sleeping on your stomach and see if that changes or affects the frequency with which you experience this.

Can anything in peoples lives just be a medical issue? It is completely ridiculous that some of the responses on here have to do with ungodliness, unholiness, that you sin too much. That a demon is trying to take over your body and on and on. If you have that much of a problem, go get a sleep study. When I had mine 20+ years ago, the doctor showed on the brain scan where I was bodily asleep but my mind was waking. This is the phenomenon known as 'sleep paralysis'. Just so the above person knows, I am a Christian, consider myself a good person, believe in God and I, having had this for 25+ years now, doubt that even God would continue to allow this to happen. If someone gets cancer is it because of what you God? How about Arthritis? Perhaps a sore throat is caused by demonic forces. And sleep paralysis is talked about in the Bible? I've never seen that term in the Holy Book. Believe in physical, bodily problems, do the best to make it better and continue to look to God for the healing you desire. Doesn't always work though.peace

Re: Ever woken up, but couldn't move a muscle? You're not alone. It's called sleep paralysis and it can be really scary (video)
They call it the "Old Hag"...

In Finnish and Swedish folklore, sleep paralysis is caused by a mare, a supernatural creature related to incubi and succubi. The mare is a damned woman, who is cursed and her body is carried mysteriously during sleep and without her noticing. In this state, she visits villagers to sit on their rib cages while they are asleep, causing them to experience nightmares. The Swedish film Marianne examines the folklore surrounding sleep paralysis.

Folk belief in Newfoundland, South Carolina and Georgia describe the negative figure of the hag who leaves her physical body at night, and sits on the chest of her victim. The victim usually wakes with a feeling of terror, has difficulty breathing because of a perceived heavy invisible weight on his or her chest, and is unable to move i.e., experiences sleep paralysis. This nightmare experience is described as being "hag-ridden" in the Gullah lore. The "Old Hag" was a nightmare spirit in British and also Anglophone North American folklore.

In Newfoundland, it is known as the 'Old Hag'. In island folklore, the Hag can be summoned to attack a third party, like a curse.

In Iceland folk culture sleep paralysis is generally called having a Mara. A goblin or a succubus (since it is generally female) believed to cause nightmares.

I had that when my wife died and "dreamt" she had come back it was the worst thing that ever happened too me ,
When she died in 2002 from a heart attack she died at home suddenly.
3 weeks later i was on the sofa one night and actually dreamt that my wife had shouted from up stairs "why did you wake me up", i then heard her coming down the stairs (all in my dream of course) and tried to sit up i couldn't she came in the room with a massive scar down the side of the face ,and said in a really evil voice to me "why did you wake me " and raised her hand to touch me ,i was trying to get up but couldn't move .i had never really heard of sleep paralysis until then ,i have had the same dream on and off for the last 13 yrs ,some nights i dread going to sleep as i know what it brings .
