Ever waited on a black family?

I'm a white male, age 39... I earned my way through a Big Ten University with a football scholarship and by taking loans to survive what my scholarship did not cover. I was born and raised in the ghettos of the West Side of Chicago, a place that some refer to now as "Chi-raq", its the place many have recently heard of in the news as being the murder capitol of the world rightnow.... I was the only white boy for a dozen blocks, and most of my team mates in college were also black. My sister married a black guy who also came from the west side and he has been like my second father... He is currently a Doctor of anastecia, and also made his way through college with a footbal scholarship...
I actually tend to prefer Black people over White in many cases, so I am as far away from being racist as one could possibly be...

Many of my white buddies claim that they are now the victims of reverse discrimination due to the fact that companies do not have special quotas for hiring white people like they do minorities, and receive no special scholarships for college due to their race, etc.

So I'm right in the middle on this one, I'd just like to hear exactly what privileges are being addressed here so I can take this mesage to my buddies for comment. If anyone has any info they'd like to share, please reply.

I myself do not see color like many here in the U.S. do, and I consider that to be a blessing. I hope that we will reach a point soon where we become a world where race is not a factor or hinderance to anyone. Can I get an Amen?

I agree there are many good black people. They are victimized by the black criminals. But, they are good people and work toward achieving goals. I am sure they want their place in history understood, but I can't imagine any black person I've been friends with expecting white people to sit around constantly wracked with guilt. Seriously, if I was in that school, I would be the first to wear the white wristband to remind everyone how privileged I am to be white! I'll wear that band every fucking day!!!

Think about it! If every white kid joined in wearing that white privilege wristband EVERY DAY, that it would be like forming your own white gang in the school. There's no guarantee your neighbors will like you. If everyone dislikes you, is it everyone else's fault?

I think this one is on the mark in some cases, but it's probably based on history.

6. I can turn on the television or open to the front page of the paper and see people of my race widely represented.

There are more of us. Asians can mske this complaint much more than you.

7. When I am told about our national heritage or about "civilization," I am shown that people of my color made it what it is.

Not in the traditional sense. I know a pretty good (white) writer (you haven't shown that you are a good writer) who has written two books and self-published both of them. Of course she would have preferred a major publisher.

A bunch of blacks will listen to the only white? I didn't know that, but I guess we are prestigious for what we say ... hm wonder why. I suspect what you say is true because I teach blacks, and they often hang on every word I say. But that's not my fault, it's because of the value of what I say.

I'm not too aware of this -- but see above in 10. The reason blacks listen when I am teaching is not because of some fear or requirement, but because they really want to know what I am saying.

the media and schools have bombarded the minds of particularly whites on who the 'bad guy' is and who the 'good guy' is. the people who can't be trusted are generally the whites and those can be trusted are generally non-white. if there was 'white privilege' to a high degree, why would 'white' media and the 'white' eduction system be so anti-white and therefore train people to view whites negatively even to whites themselves?

Okay, see how for most of these things you are saying that if a black person just puts in the effort to change their environment, or go to a different environment, they can have a similar experience to yours? All things that you assume to be "normal" so you can take them for granted. THAT is what white privilege is. You get to have all of that stuff without having to make the extra effort.
