Now cable is just a scam when it comes to movies. You either have to PAY EXTRA to see a recent movie or you are stuck watching 10+ year old random movies they put on. 100% bullsh*t....I agree. |

Hitndahedfred User ID: 8963735 United States 03/14/2013 06:15 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | We gave up pay TV a good while ago. Even though we are "rural",,with the HD antenna we purchased we get 9 HD channels. Well it is really 5 channels and each one has 2 "HD sub-channels" Since the TV is connected to the computer an all of it is connected to a Pioneer VSX-516 AV "receiver",,,,it sounds awesome. We have a couple of the usual "movie" sites we use for content as well as hitting the major channels websites for shows we would normally get. Works well enough for us. Each time a person stands for an ideal, or acts to improve the lot of others, or strikes out against injustice, he or she sends forth a tiny ripple of hope. And crossing each other from a million different centers of energy and daring, those ripples build a current that can sweep down the mightiest walls of oppression and resistance. Few are willing to embrace the disapproval of their fellows, the censure of their colleagues, the wrath of their society. Moral courage is a rarer commodity than bravery in battle or great intelligence. Yet it is the one essential vital quality for those who seek to change a world that yields most painfully to change. Perhaps you should look into setting up an old computer or perhaps even getting a new pc set up as a PVR (personal video recorder). My cable service consists of a little over 20 channels and I always have something to watch on the rare occasions I do have time to sit back and watch TV. I like watching movies but most of the movies are playing between 7 and 10 in the evening or on the weekends. I work evenings AND weekends! What I did was invest in a huge hard drive and a TV card. I run my cable to the TV card in the PC and then connect the PC to the TV. Now, using the free TV guide that comes with the free Windows Media Player, I select the programs I want to record and record them to my pc's hard drive for watching later. When I do have time to watch TV, even though there's seldom something I want to watch playing when I do sit down in front of the set, I just go through what I've already recorded and choose the program I want to watch. Far cheaper than subscribing to DVR service or Tivo! The only expense for me was the initial PC setup and my regular cable TV cost. Now, I can pause live TV, record programs, and skip through those time-wasting commercials all without any additional subscription costs. Money well spent as far as I'm concerned. |
