You know what this video made me think of instantly... it was like, a soul reborn again but driven purely by impulse... and then it encounters its visage. It was like, is that me?

Looks much more closer to this...

Compare my photo to that, but what's odd is that wiki claims that they are not native to Ohio... wtf

hmm

Colour morphs perhaps

Dysdera is a genus of spiders from the family Dysderidae, with more than 200 species. They occur mostly in Eurasia from Central Asia to Spain, extending into northern Africa (e.g. Morocco, Egypt, Ethiopia). However, at least two species occur in South America (D. solers in Colombia (possibly a relict species from the post-miocene era) and D. magna in Brazil and Uruguay, they are also very common in the central area of Chile), and several species are found on smaller islands, like the Canary Islands. D. crocata is the only cosmopolitan species of the whole family.

Not me in particular. In fact if I see a spider in my house, I'll capture it and set free outside. Expecting it will kill other nasty ass bugs. Fuck, I'll kill a roach or fly or mosquito without even blinking an eye.

same here. 2 days ago, I found a wolf spider in our bathroom. So I caught him in some tissue, and took him outside.

pretty common around this way, so it's not really a big deal

(mine didn't have babies like the one in video)

I once went hiking in the mountains in PA and thought I was about to step on a tree branch but it was a black snake!!!

That was the only time in my entire life when I was paralyzed with fear. Not good! I ended up jumping back and throwing rocks at it then it left. :D

the Bible is correct in the chronology of the earth, in that it is only 7000 or so years old,
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 35945685

So some guys lived to be nearly 1000 years of age (over 2000 years ago), but the whole planet is only 7000 years old?

lol
 Quoting: Great White 35054849

As I already mentioned, makes determining the exactly chronology kind of tough to fix an exact date Still, the age of the earth is probably closer to 7000 years than 7 billion years.

lol there's nothing magical about it.

Snakes and Spiders are both venomous. Natural selection has lead us to be mostly born with the natural instinct to be fearful, cautious of ALL of them - regardless if the venom that they possess is harmful to us or not. Because, we do not yet have the capability to naturally determine that yet. Maybe we will someday.

This is just like the fear of heights - fear of water when you're young and can't swim

Why bad things that have bacteria on them 'stink' to us. So we know to steer clear of them.

Same with animals - most are born with the instinctive knowledge to fear their predators. As the species matures through the course of natural selection it becomes more and more aware and smarter at ways to avoid the predator - while the predator gets smarter and smarter at finding ways to get his prey.

Everything continually improves because of these sorts of things. It's what keeps life going instead of being glitched and burning out after a few generations.

Re: Why are humans inherently afraid of spiders and snakes?
My husband asked me if I wanted to move to Australia once, and all I could think about was this post I read somewhere about a girl that always had snakes crawling through her front door into her house. One day, I went into my kid's playroom and right where my toddler was playing I moved the toybox back to get a toy and you know what was there??? A SNAKE!!!!

I screamed and by the time I came back with a garden stick thingy, it was GONE...freaking in my house somewhere. OMG I called my father in law crying, cause I was freaking out. He never found it..three weeks later, it was in our blanket in our bedroom. My husband stabbed it in the head with something. It was just a little bitty baby rat snake..but I swear in my mind it was like a python or something.

Re: Why are humans inherently afraid of spiders and snakes?
i wonder if way way way back they were huge, like the size of a horse or something. so we have it deep in our cells to be afraid
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 27963234

I had thought the exact same rhing, and did a little research on it. Insects were indeed HUGE at one point in the Earths past. But this was during the earlier days, iirc, when there were many more trees and the environment was of a higher concentration of oxygen. Insects grow larger with more oxygen.

Heres a quick link I found to briefly explain this

[link to m.wisegeek.com]

However, this cannot be the reason that humans fear the spider, as we did not co exist when they were this large.

I believe there to be another reason for our hereditary fear.
