Its hard to say yet, even for spaceweather. Its a filament CME so its going to have alot of dense plasma involved. Not to worried, just take spaceweather for what it is.

Well considering it won't hit until tomorrow evening I would hope its good. A flare has nothing to do with the size of the plasma ejected in a CME.The flare is photonic light, the CME which arrives days later has particle mass. A C flare can give you just as much particle density as an X. This also had a filament release so it is one to watch, thats heavy nucleii density. Since we're in the middle of a smaller CME right now what we have to watch for is the tail of the magnetosphere as it rebounds from our existing energy storm. I'm not worried about this but we do have a very weak magnetic signature so we just watch and wait!

No, it says 2-3 days

You are getting the first flare and the second one mixed up, this is the second one we are talking about here...

Look under the picture at your link:
"The central location of the explosion combined with multiple views of the CME from SOHO and NASA's twin STEREO spacecraft suggest that the cloud is heading almost directly toward Earth. If so, an impact would likely occur in 2 to 3 days, setting the stage for weekend auroras."

We are all connected. It might not give us any "doom" effects, but the magnetics can make us a bit off and can increase earthquake activity. Don't have to be a genius to figure it all out.

LOL, that would be a concern. This is actually good for our planet as we haven't had near the amount of particle saturation needed with this solar max, but since our mag is weak its always a concern. With the weakened sunspot activity earthside theres concern we could go into a cold spell for years, so we need solar storms

Let me explain in terms even a moron can understand. You have an explosion on the sun that releases plasma (energy), that's called a Coronal Mass Ejection (CME). There is what's called a solar FLARE that accompanies this, that releases X-Rays and other Radiation that travel at the speed of light...

THE RADIATION FLARE HAS ALREADY HIT US!!!

THE CME travels slower...but it's not that big or that charged...

I tell you what, if we see Aurora's lower than Nebraska, I'll come back on this thread and eat my words...

If not, you come back and apologize to me...

This is not that huge, it will barely puff up our atmosphere...

The flare has already hit us...

Flares do nothing to satellites unless its close to large X status on up to cosmic. Flares hit within 8 seconds since they are light traveling at lights speed. The CME is what to watch for. The predicted arrival time is for late tomorrow night into sunday morning

Our atmosphere is indeed weak for a Solar Max...we need a few of these small to medium CME's to puff it up and expand it out...

Agreed , we don't need a maunder minimum to freeze us out for a decade or more.
“One of the saddest lessons of history is this: If we’ve been bamboozled long enough, we tend to reject any evidence of the bamboozle. We’re no longer interested in finding out the truth. The bamboozle has captured us. It’s simply too painful to acknowledge, even to ourselves, that we’ve been taken. Once you give a charlatan power over you, you almost never get it back.” – Carl Sagan

Isn't this quite normal?

For a solar maximum which we are in, yes. But if your a solar watcher then this is a very awesome event! BTW your pretty.

Yeah dude, pay attention.. were talking about something completely different that happened this morning and wont get here till Saturday night or Sunday like others have pointed out..
 Quoting: Liquid_Pestilence

Yeah dude, you fuckers don't even know the difference between the CME and the Flare...

The FLARE HAS ALREADY HIT US!!!
 Quoting: Saddletramp

Dipshit.

:wut:
:wut?:
 Quoting: Da fuq

 Quoting: Saddletramp

You could have avoided confusion by posting a link to a website that actually talks about the flare in an article like [link to www.solarham.net] instead of linking [link to www.spaceweather.com] which has "CME Impact" (old one) as the headline article.

If the grid goes down, I'll be expecting your apology via carrier pigeon in a few weeks.

ahhh
