The basic thing taught (and ignored) in all religions

This thread is not about what is wrong with organized religions. Or how it has been subverted for the powerful/rich.


This is about the golden rule, and the fact that most religions teach this tenet.

Buddha never said god or eternity dont exist. Buddha said go to Nirvana and find out. Instead of telling humans everything Buddha gave out instructions so that humans could find the answers.

The Dalai Lama expanded on this recently. Stating that if Buddha did answer the question it would be...

"Everything is God"

OP - I didn't read this whole thread, but the christians have the "love thy neighbor as thyself" idea.

Avoid all religions and just use common sense. Golden rule falls under common sense to me.

I agree it is common sense. We were born with this feeling. Takes 12 years of schooling and 18 years of Media to bury it in your sub-conscious though.

What about S&M type people who like to be abused and humiliated? The golden rule is bunk for that reason imo.

What if you hate yourself? Then you should hate others? No wonder this world is so fucked up, ppl following stupid rules like this.

Another way to look at this is that its ok to hate and/or not care about others as long as you hate/don't care about yourself. That's the fatal loophole of this rule.

Even S&M people have rules they follow. They would never just start their S&M stuff without finding the right partner.

I have heard this debate before. S&M folks dont want someone to come up and randomly spank them.

You speak of S&M like you know, when it is obvious you dont know any personally.

The Golden Rule is stupid? Where are you from? Who taught you that? What religion (if any) do you follow?

I have never met such a person.

No one wants to "hate" themselves either. At least in all my journeys.

Even if those people do exists, they would be such a small portion of society, the world would still be better.

But, I dont think they exist.

What is not known by most people is the genetic manipulation that took place in the past... Dna can, and has been programmed in these bodies to send signals... This combined with social programming influences the person to move in the direction, the controllers programmed...

Since we are all essentially one interconnected entity the golden rule could be simplified even more: "Be Kind to Yourself"

Why do you follow David? Yes, the "golden rule" was preached by Christ. The Old Testament followed Jehovah, or Yahweh, not God. Thou shalt not kill. Thats another commandment that every false religion breaks. You can kill as many people as Jesus: zero, zilch, nada! Look at there fruits. Is there agape love, or a lust for the material things? Big buildings with idols, banners, altars, fancy clothes, all fruits of this world. The world of satan.

Its always easy to overlook the cause for people failing to treat others by the "golden rule". That cause is humanity its self. It is not the fault of a particular religious faith or lack of faith necessarily. There are certainly as many if not more deaths at the hand of people who profess no religious faith as those who do. The problem is humanity. We as people are not always in control of our emotions. We are prone to lashing out at those who do not think as we do. The idea that is often glossed over from Christianity in particular is that there is a recognition of that deficiency and an acknowledgement that we are not able to overcome these sins on our own. If we were, there would be some semblance of a peaceful coexistence somewhere in the angry, confused little planet.

So what you're saying is that eye for an eye concept is omnipresent in all religions? So all this shit's preaching the same? Who needs it?

Damn sure is an Islamic doctrine, but there you get your ear cut off, you would do unto someone else a similar ear surgery.

It is not the only rule that matters.

Love is what matters, unfortunately that is not practised much of the time either.

Yep, and saying you follow something is completely different then living that life.

Actions speak louder then words. Just because some "prophet" manipulated and changed something doesnt mean his actions should be used to denegrate an entire religion.

Falls very closely to each other. I want to be loved, and therefore I give love.

I want respect, therefor I give it.

etc.

There are only 2 emotions (IMHO). Fear and Love. Every other emotion is derived from those 2 things.
