In the event of strong geomagnetic storms you can protect your delicate electronic equipment by using your microwave oven as a Faraday cage! But DO NOT switch it on, otherwise you will fry everything!  Quoting: Just the facts! Thanks for the info.! ... Very Much Appreciated!  I have a quick question, maybe you'll know... ...Or someone else here... Does a Faraday Cage need to be grounded? Some say yes and others say no... ...Confusing!!!   If it isn't grounded, the cage will act like an antenna and focus energy in the box. If you REALLY want to protect your stuff, build a real Faraday cage. Versus a microwave oven. Some microwaves leak horribly. Put a cell phone in the microwave and call it. If it rings, you got a leaky microwave and it won't work anyways. This would be good advice!
