You don't, no one should control peoples lives, let communities find a way to be self organized according to their idiosyncrasies. No one is born with a guarantee to be provided with their needs. When you allow freedom to prevail you actually create the right environment for prosperity to be cultivated, but you need to have patience to let it come to fruition. In America people panicked because not everything was as perfect as they expected and exchanged capitalism for government regulated economies. Had they waited a bit longer prosperity would have come to everyone, but now instead they have become hopelessly indebted to provide everyone with fake money. The entire world is adopting this lunacy, just because they couldn't wait until productivity created enough prosperity for everyone. You're not gonna get prosperity and productivity merely by having good intentions. These actually pave the road to hell. That's the thing, communities will NOT find a way to organise coordinated efforts until it's an issue that affects them. The rich do not care about the poor, until the poor are on their doorstep with fires and pitchforks, which could have been all prevented with some sharing earlier on. Though I guess that shortsightedness has mostly to do with the mindset of the average person today. Some of the poor are only poor due to circumstance, but with enough water, could sprout into a very strong tree, but they won't sprout at all if the water is withheld. But I don't think full blown socialism, nobody profits, 'everyone is equal' bullshit works. I think excessive welfare hurts everyone and makes everyone weaker. But it does seem that a small degree of sharing/charity does need to operate as 'maintenance', it keeps the system lubricated and working optimally. And yes, I know that opens the door for government to decide what is most important and that ends up tyrannical in due time. It seems to be an issue of balance, not getting locked into capitalism or socialism I just wonder what is the best way to do this. Charity is only charity when people voluntarily offer it, period. Well then, there's nothing to stop the rich from stealing from the poor when they have the resources to do so and no heart. Guess the poor just need to gain control of new resources to turn the tide. Like expecting capsized sailors to build their own lifeboat in the middle of the ocean meanwhile the lucky one paddles away in the only lifeboat If the number of sailors in the water was greater than the capacity of the lifeboat, then it makes sense to be selfish otherwise you will all perish when the lifeboat sinks, but otherwise it's just cruel. |

Well unfortunately there's nothing to stop the rich from gaining control either by trying to implement socialized systems of help, and it has been proven very well in our own times. Listen here, throughout history the most pervasively evil thing that has afflicted mankind has not been rich people, but powerful people in governments. Now the rich can be countered more easily by the poor if these join forces than governments can be. In a world where we only had to worry about capitalists, at least we would stand a chance, but against governments having power you stand no chance whatsoever, they will corrupt most and kill off the rest. So parting from the base argument that we're mostly screwed either way, I chose to support the least pervasive evil. In a free market system, with no governments able to bail out corporations with public funds, the rich would have it much harder to attain that kind of control you speak about. I tell you, the evil rich people that dominate the world nowadays have been able to do so by taking over governments which were already too powerful because they presented themselves as saviors for the gullible masses. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1312616 Yeah I know how socialism ends, and I agree that a tyrannical government is a much bigger problem for everyone than rich individuals/corporations, but I would argue that even those rich individuals/corporations could eventually band together to form a government to exploit others, they have the resources to do so. Corporations today even have their own private security forces(mini armies). There has to be a way to safely combine the two economic philosophies where people are still rewarded for their work and aren't taxed into oblivion, the poor are given a chance and cannot have a free ride, and a government that knows its boundaries and doesn't exceed them. But I guess that requires a better kind of human than the kind we have right now, how do we produce this human if we nurture predatory or parasitic tendencies. |

Meanwhile on the bottom of the ladder ... We wonder how to pay our bills and food and gas prices while working full time jobs with poverty level wages. I wish I had time to worry about things that are completely meaningless to me too. Maybe people with money just have too much time on their hands? I was at this guy's house the other day. He had a mansion with several cars and a lake behind his house. He said, "What am I paying your company for? You're always late. I'm calling your office today and getting this service free. This is just ridiculous." Indeed. |
