I say let it go. You could have sold it for at least 900 to someone else. You choose not to.

Imagine how you would feel if you gave a homeless person 10$, which he spent on a lottery ticket, instead of wine, and wins 5 million dollar.

Simply has to be the most selfish thing I have ever read.
Poor goody two shoes, if you would have "given" it away, you would really be crying in your milk wouldn't you.


In order to remain safe in the future from these wanton crooks that pay you for things you wish to give, simply put a extremely high price on all your crap so as no one would ever consider something so stupid as buying it. In this way you are assured someone wont come along and maintain and perhaps fix flaws, then sell it off. It will stay safe with all your other useless crap.


Here is a better idea, give it to the Christians, they can sell it, buy some wire make a refugee camp somewhere and then watch everyone die from "mysterious illness" and what not, now that would indeed be helping the effort for sure.

Anyway. I agree its a case of being bitter. I'm not saying I'm right.

1. When the car was sold I did say if he ever tried to sell it I wanted first crack at buying it back. That was probably forgotten.

2. The relative is came into a lot of money, jealous, yeah probably.

3. The cousin is cheap and it annoys me when a millionaire calls relatives to beg for free soda cause the don't want to pay the inflated grocery store prices that week.

4. I guess it just sort of rubs me the wrong way a family member would leverage family to make some money or come out on a deal.

I'm going to let it go. Just realize to never do business with that person. I shouldn't be a means to a profit.

I should add I'm not pissed or anything. I posted this when I found out and wanted to see if the way I felt was irrational. Life is worth worrying about a nickel.

I wouldn't worry about it too much. He could have easily sold it after you gave it to him for free.

I don't think there's anything wrong with him selling the car for a profit a year later, but he does sound like a dick for gloating about it.

How in heck was he duped.
He was going to give it for free.The dude insisted on paying him $500.So he used the car and kept it going for a year then sold it for $900.
After OP sold it to him it is no longer his concern.
It was a little dirty to say he sold it for $900 IF he did it to gloat but still he didnt dupe OP in any way.OP made $500 the guy made $400 whats the big issue.Its called business

I guess he couldn't be expected to keep it forever. Also is he suppose to sell it for a loss? I guess its just the fact to some people everything is an opportunity to make money. Everything is a deal. Nothing is sacred. I guess its just frustration. I'm cool with it.

Exactly, business is business. Some are dirty and don't give a crap who they rip off, but they lose business in the end by doing this.

Considering that the guy had to fuel and maintain the car during that year, $400 isn't even really a profit, just a good deal.

True, if it's an old car, he probably had to do some maintenance, which easily eats into 400

I understand your point for sure.Had it been me I would have helped someone else out that needed a car badly because I was helped.I have always been that way and of course not rich because of it.My siblings are just the opposite.Everything they do is with the idea about turning a profit.Compassion never factors in to it.Of course as you can guess they are much better off financially.Thats why some have a lot and some have just enough.I am in the last group.

The guy gave him a car for cheap, was goingto give it for free. Obviously because the person NEEDED it, otherwise OP would still have the car, and who know if he sold it, hecould have gotten more out of it...but that even isnt the point, it still would have been his to do with what he wanted.

So the right thing to do, since the person he Gave it to didnt NEED it anymore, out of respect and with the same charitable attitude that was shown him, he shouldhave told OP, "hey I want to sell it, before I do, do you want it back, or even, do youwant to buy it back, oreven do youwant to buyit back for less? Then the OP being the classier person would have felt like he was being looked after,just as he did for the person who got the car.

Ifhe didnt want to tell him up front he was selling it, then when he sold it, he should have gave OP the extra 400 bucks he got out of it.

Also to add to my point above, it's not about the money, it's the fact OP showed concern, compassion and when it was the other person's turn to reciprocate,there was none.

People can be so selfish.
