Yes, that means we don't have to best roads like California, or the best welfare programs like Detroit. It also means we aren't fucking broke like those places. Hell yea, give us 50 billion worth of debt to spend on every dumb ass project and welfare scheme imaginable and I'm sure the standard of living would go up. Of course our kids would be burdened with unsustainable debt. |

When you don't fund your own retirement system so that you can use the cash elsewhere that is an accounting trick that amounts to borrowing from yourself. When you issue bonds you are essentially borrowing money. When you get bailed the fuck out by the federal government that is a loan? Or is it a gift? Whatever. It's still using money you don't have to prop up an obviously long broken and unsustainable system. |
