After the hungry adaptation period? Most,if given a run up buffer to it, would do fine.

Oh, they'd hate it. Sure, that's true, but they'd live a normal enough life span.

I know, you don't see it, right? How can lazy, average people do that? They;d all starve or... I don't know, kill themselves when hard work presented itself.

Except that Americans are hard working. Even the fat ones work longer hours than in most places, sometimes nearly fifty percent or more than people back in the 1860's did each day.

Yeah. It's not the same and would take learning skills. I grant you that and if they didn't have anything to start with, then a lot would die.

But then, that isn't what you said. People in the 1860's didn't scrabble for food each day, they had a stock ready and put by. They worked hard and had skills specific to their own time, but they were things that are similar to what a person now would at least understand was needed.

They might not know how to make bread in a fire oven, but they know it takes having a fire and flour. If you're clever enough, you can figure out how to eat and survive enough to learn with the supplies that an average person would have had access to.
